Introduction

Illegal dumping is a significant problem in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This Capstone project was done in partnership with Allegheny Cleanways. My job was to help Allegheny Cleanways with research, specifically regarding people’s actions and how illegal dumping could be mitigated. Many materials, including the infographic, flyer, and yard sign, were designed to be used in communities across Pittsburgh to help educate the importance of stopping illegal dumping. To be more beneficial to my community partner, I did not focus on researching the adverse environmental effects of illegal dumping. Allegheny Cleanways has already completed a significant quantity of research in that department, and I wanted to make my work valuable to Allegheny Cleanways. So, the research is based on social factors and the creation of education material for communities.
