Sport of Hunting Rifle Shooting

Hunting Rifle Sport Shooting is not a hunting sport although the simulations mimic hunting situations.

General rules

A match consist of 30 shots shot over six ranges of 5 shots each.

SAHRSA Target : Impala, Blessbuck, Springbuck, Warthog, Jackal, Baboon and round 200mm steel targets (Gongs).

Ranges are pop up ranges on rural farmland or reserves and normal vary each match.

Distances of targets can range from 60m to 350m.

Target distance is not published to competitors and no electronic range measuring device may be used on the range.

A range will be shot on a selected time limit ranging from 45 seconds to 120 seconds.

Electronic Wind measuring tools may not be used on the range during a match

Shooting positions may vary from prone, sitting, kneeling and standing positions un-assisted free hand or assisted with various shooting aids like shooting sticks, sandbags, fence poles, bales, Trees , rifle belts etc.

The match director will publish the positions on and type of targets on the day of the match.

Safety

Safety is priority and rifles must be carried in the unloaded state with a chamber flag displayed in the chamber.

Only on the range and on command of the rang officer may a rifle be loaded always pointing down range. Any unsafe equipment, un-sportsman conduct or unsafe behavior can justify a disqualification from the match.

Accreditation

Cape Town Hunting Rifle Shooting association is a sport shooting federation affiliated to the SA Hunting Rifle Shooting Association, an SASSCo http://www.sassf.co.za/ accredited sport shooting association representing Hunting Rifle Sport Shooting in South Africa.

Cape town Hunting Rifle was formal known as Western Province Hunting rifle Shooting Association and was registered 2009 as a full member of the SASSCo - Western Cape - Cape Town District. https://sassco-westerncape.co.za/

We represent the Cape Town Metro-pole District in Hunting rifle Shooting and have the honors to issue Sports Colors to representative teams in the Open, Ladies and Junior Classes.
