More About Link Up:
Carnegie Hall's Link Up program is an innovative educational initiative designed to connect students in grades 3-5 with orchestras across the United States and around the world. Launched by the Weill Music Institute, the educational arm of Carnegie Hall, the program aims to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of music through hands-on learning experiences, interactive concerts, and engaging curriculum materials.
At the core of the Link Up program is a series of comprehensive, standards-based curricula that focus on diverse musical topics, including singing, playing the recorder or violin, reading and notating music, and exploring orchestral repertoire. Throughout the school year, participating teachers receive extensive resources, including lesson plans, student workbooks, and online multimedia materials, to guide them in implementing the curriculum in their classrooms.
The culminating experience of the Link Up program is a live, interactive concert at the participating orchestra's venue, where students have the opportunity to perform with the orchestra from their seats. These interactive concerts often feature popular orchestral works and specially commissioned pieces, allowing students to actively participate and experience the thrill of performing with a professional orchestra.
Through the Link Up program, Cape Symphony seeks to inspire a lifelong love of music and empower young people with the tools to engage with and understand music in meaningful ways. By fostering partnerships with orchestras and schools around the world, Carnegie Hall's program has reached over one million students since its inception and continues to expand its impact on the lives of young music enthusiasts.
