Automatic extended time on Canvas due dates
When you set a due date with the toolkit, students with 1.5x or 2x extended time automatically get their own later due dates as Canvas assignment overrides. The "Available until" date moves with them so they are never locked out early, and any section dates or one-off extensions you already set in Canvas are kept.
Private by design: student data never leaves your device
504 and IEP records are stored only in the teacher's own browser. Nothing is uploaded, sold or shared, and the toolkit does not collect student data. Teachers can export just the 504/IEP list, without any other settings, to back it up or share it with colleagues through their school's approved accounts. Importing a shared list adds students without erasing anything.
Frequently asked questions
How can I see which students have 504 plans or IEPs in Canvas?
Canvas does not show accommodations by default. With Canvas Teacher Toolkit, accommodated students are flagged next to their name in the gradebook and People list, and a badge at the top of SpeedGrader shows who has a 504 or IEP. Hover over or click the flag or badge to see their accommodations.
How do I give extended time on assignments in Canvas?
Set the due date with the toolkit's Due dates tool. Students marked for 1.5x or 2x extended time automatically get later due dates through Canvas overrides, including the Available until date.
Does it connect to PowerSchool?
No. Because student information never leaves your computer, it does not connect to PowerSchool or other student information systems. You can add students one at a time, or paste or upload a whole caseload at once from a document or spreadsheet.
Do accommodations carry over to new courses and quarters?
Yes. Accommodations are saved by student, not by course. Once a student is added, their flag and accommodations appear in every course and every quarter they are enrolled in, so nothing has to be re-entered when a new term starts.
Which browsers and Canvas sites does it work with?
Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Firefox, on any Canvas site at instructure.com, plus custom school Canvas addresses you add in Settings.
The toolkit is free to install. The 504 and IEP accommodations tools are part of the $1/month upgrade, with a 14-day free trial. School and district licensing is available.
