Julianos is the god of literature, law, history, and contradiction, and the favorite deity of many mages. His temples act as educational institutions.
Julianos says: Know the truth. Observe the law. When in doubt, seek wisdom from the wise.
From the lowest peasant,
to the highest Emperors,
those who bring harm
without provocation to the least of the Eight’s children
are shunned by Julianos.
Those who bear false witness,
and work to deceive others, know this:
There is but one Truth.
All things are known to our Divine,
and He shall judge their lies.
All things in this world are finite.
What one man gains, another has lost.
Those who steal from their brothers and sisters
do harm to their livelihood and to their peace of mind.
Our Divine sees this with a heavy heart...
for Justice has been shunned.
—Canticles of Julianos, 3:5–8
Julianos, Patron of Wisdom and Logic,
help me to keep learning every day of my life
no matter what the subject may be.
Encourage me when the studies are difficult
and when I am tempted to give up.
Enlighten me to grasp the Truth presented before me.
Grant me the opportunity to put my knowledge to use
in benefitting my fellows and those yet unknown to me.
—Canticles of Julianos, 3:12–13
For the glory of the Divines and in the pursuit of justice,
may I be trustworthy with confidences,
keen in study, accurate in analysis,
correct in conclusion, able in argument,
loyal to those I represent, honest with all,
courteous to adversaries, and ever attentive to conscience.
Guide me as I study and reflect in my decisions
as I interpret Law. Julianos, stand beside me
so that I shall not, to win a point,
lose my soul.
—Canticles of Julianos, 3:20–21
Grant me the gift of understanding. Help me to understand the feelings, desires, goals, and needs of others. At the same time, help me to understand myself in my actions and reactions. Widen my vision beyond my own small world to embrace with knowledge and love the experiences of my fellows. Help me to always see you at work in my own life and in the lives of others. Bless me with insight, acceptance, and love that is tempered by the wisdom to recognize that which I cannot change.
—Canticles of Julianos, 4:1–8
To question is to learn,
for a question inspires thought,
and in the search for an answer
we gain our own wisdom.
The mind will assimilate, refining what is known.
The mind will accommodate, amending for the contradictory.
A wrong answer does not indicate a lack of intelligence.
A correct answer does not guarantee constant accuracy.
In the pursuit of knowledge, we temper ourselves.
With each experience, we come closer to the truth.
Through the guidance of Julianos, we are enlightened.
—Canticles of Julianos, 13:6–10
Julianos, do not spare me from the truth.
Even when it is painful, do not let me seek the bitter mercy of a lie.
For though the truth may be thorned, there is no flower more fragrant;
though touching it may sting, there is no honey sweeter.
Lies are a foundation of sand, and all which is built upon it crumbles and falls.
Empires are built upon your truth, O Julianos, as Saint Alessia built hers.
Grant me her wisdom, Your wisdom in which she shared;
to always seek the truth, and to know it in my soul.
—Canticles of Julianos, 3:3–4
Our shepherd, Julianos, we dedicate our lives in the pursuit of knowledge, wisdom, and truth in your name. We use your teachings as the foundation on which we pursue greater meaning within the world and use your sigil to point the way as we explore the meaning of what is, was, and will be.
Our shepherd, Julianos, we pray that you grant us the strength to learn from our mistakes and the wisdom to share that knowledge with those who would seek it from us.
We beseech you to forever be our shepherd and guide as we observe the teachings and law of the Divines, your symbol forever being the beacon to remind us of our mission.
—Canticles of Julianos, 16:8–9
In a world filled with uncertainty and ever-changing knowledge,
It is easy to lose sight of the pursuit of truth and understanding.
We gather here, seeking solace in the midst of chaos,
In the embrace of the divine, we find our sanctuary.
O, Source of Wisdom, Julianos, God of Logic,
We pray for clarity in these tumultuous times.
Grant us the strength to navigate the sea of doubt,
In our quest for knowledge, let your presence be our guide.
As we journey through the labyrinth of life's mysteries,
Illuminate our path with the torch of intellect.
Help us unravel the riddles of existence,
With reason as our compass and insight as our map.
In the midst of confusion, let us find clarity,
Amidst the noise, grant us the gift of discernment.
O, Source of Wisdom, Julianos, God of Logic,
We pray for clarity in these tumultuous times.
—Canticles of Julianos, 2:18–21
It is a hard fight and a weary one, the fight of the truth-seeker:
for the vow of the truth-seeker is greater than that of the warrior.
The warrior, called to righteous battle, fights for a few hours,
But the truth-seeker’s war goes on day and night,
and as long as life lasts it never ceases.
When a brave knight takes the field, it puts to flight a host of cowards.
When day breaks, the night withdraws its shadows.
When knowledge takes root, then ignorance must die.
In the Starry-Heart a great war goes forward against pride and greed.
It is on the fields of truth that this battle rages,
and the sword that rings loudest is Wisdom.
Lay hold of your weapons and join in the fight.
Stand up, luminous, for Logic and Law.
Blessed are those warriors given the chance of a battle
to open the road that leads to truth.
If you are killed you gain Heaven,
and if you triumph you gain the world.
So strike off your enemy’s head, make a quick end of it,
then come and bow before the Father of Words.
One who is brave never forsakes the battle:
one who flies from it is no true fighter.
—Canticles of Julianos, 5:1–11
