Printer Driver:

There are two methods I found to find and install the device drivers (one for the printer, and one for the scanner). I'll document the easiest one for Ubuntu users in the hopes that we can all learn something from this.

Installing the Canon printer on a Ubuntu Linux system is not that much difficult. A Personal Package Archive (PPA) command is available on the web that you can use to install and update the Canon printer driver on your system.

In modern Linux distributions, a native printer driver software comes pre-installed with a printer database. Here, we will see how to use the Foomatic DB on a Ubuntu system to configure a Canon printer.

After downloading, you need to install it through the software store of Ubuntu. If you still have an issue with your printer, you can download the source code of the printer driver and install it through installing software via the source-code on Linux.

I scan a lot of documents, in fact every document I get is scanned. Probably 95% of the scanning I do is done on the flat bed and not through the document feeder due to the fact that most of the documents I get are 2 sided. Setting this printer up to manually scan documents were it asked my on the display screen if I have additional pages is a mess and a horrible nightmare due to the poor way the scanner on-screen control panel works. Every time I have to do a scan I have to use the onboard control panel to teach the printer how to scan manually and 90% of the time it doesn't work and I have to start all over again which is very frustrating.and a completely unnecessary nightmare.

I have a relatively old Canon MF8200C. Thanks to Preeternal, the install for the printer driver _ gutenprint _ worked only after I had installed sane-utils and synaptic and then reinstalled the PPA repository, thanks to contumax, below.

Worked fine on Ubuntu Mate 20.04 using Canon Pixma TS3420, the printer did what it was supposed to, the only issue I had was trying ScanGear to open the scanner, but it could not find my model, open Document Scanner and it was all there, my stupid. ThankX.

Addendum

I updated Linux Mint to 20.3 from 20.04 and the Canon MB5460 multi-function printer would not allow printing.

I finally found this site and removed ippusbxd.

This fixed the printing issue for me.

Mint 20.3 had automatically found the printer and drivers, but still not printing, so used the ipp address of the printer and added the PPD from the original Canon driver CD as per my previous comments, after I removed ippusbxd.

So you can see the printer/scanner is hooked up, and read by the motherboard. The printer features work, I was able to just make a copy of a paper file, by hitting the copy button on my printer so the scanner does work. 006ab0faaa
