We rely on parent volunteers to help conduct the week’s activities at Canoe Island. Parent volunteers work with students during the day and sleep in canvas tents by group assignment.
The number of chaperones needed will be based on student attendance by gender. Female adults sleep in tents with female students and male adults sleep in tents with male students.
LOTTERY PROCESS
We will prioritize Canoe Island Committee members for chaperone placement. The Chaperone lottery will occur on March 15, 2026. To make our process more equitable for all students, one parent per student may apply to the chaperone lottery. Anyone who requests to be a chaperone will be notified if they are selected or are on the alternate list.
GENERAL CHAPERONE DUTIES
Are you wondering if you would like to be a chaperone? Please keep in mind that this is not a vacation for the chaperones. Chaperones pay for their own trip and are on duty 24 hours a day. They will sleep in tents with the students and accompany them on their activities during the day.
Here is some key information about the responsibilities of chaperones while at Canoe Island. In addition, below is a list of steps you will be required to take BEFORE departure if selected as a chaperone.
Chaperones will be required to have background checks administered by CIFC.
Chaperones attend a one-hour chaperone training session. Session is given as a group via zoom.
Chaperones are responsible for the cost of their trip, which is $500.
Final payment is due by May 31st.
If personal schedules change and a chaperone is no longer able to attend, we ask that you notify us as soon as possible so an alternate can be notified. Alternate names will be taken from the original lottery list in rank order.
If selected as a chaperone:
