Hello! My name is Amanda Randolph, owner of Cane Hollow Quilting. All my life, my mother quilted. I grew up watching my mom piecing on her sewing machine and hand quilting on a wooden frame my father made. I would crawl underneath the frame and watch her needle go in and out of the fabric. She started me at age 7 hand embroidering blocks. At some point, she had me making 9 patch blocks out of leftover material she had made of my clothes. I finished that quilt at around age 13. After that, she handed me a basted pillow panel, needle and thread and told me to practice hand quilting. That pillow is probably still in her fabric closet gathering dust. I resolved in my mind to never quilt if this was quilting.
Fast forward a few years with a wedding, college graduation, job, 2 children and homeschooling said children. I would occasionally sew, scrapbook and do various crafts during that time. When my children became more independent while homeschooling, I got bored and went back to sewing and piecing quilts. My mom had graduated to a longarm by this point, and I would take my quilts to her house and quilt them with her help. I eventually taught myself to quilt using my domestic sewing machine (which resulted in a shoulder surgery). My husband and I prayed and searched and finally bought a longarm in 2019. I haven't looked back.
While homeschooling, I often taught sewing and quilting classes at our local homeschool group. I also taught classes at a local quilt store as well as teaching in our local quilt guild. I became certified in some of Martha Pullen's patterns in 2017 and became certified as a Sew Kind of Wonderful Instructor 2024. I have so much fun teaching curves!
I teach beginner sewing, quilting, and curve piecing patterns in the garage next to my house. Get in touch with me if you are interested in a class. I love to meet new people and teach quilting.
Happy quilting!
