NOTES: Right, I have a lot to say. I have a love/hate relationship with Victoria's stepmother. Her comedic timing is fantastic, but why has she chosen to do that voice??? Also why has Rebecca been given the most ridiculous costumes?! The show was surprisingly more inappropriate than I was expecting - definitely wouldn't recommend taking your 8 year old. I felt like I was at Magic Mike for some of it. Also, I think some of the songs went on too long, like he could have cut a verse. Ok, the positives: Ivano, the trio of king's men, the step sisters, that entire ball scene where the whole stage rotates and the theatre becomes like in the round. Some of the songs were bangers (like the Godmother's song is a tune) and others I just didn't really vibe with. Not for sale.

NOTES: Opening Night. The first tryout preview, and world premiere, of Follies. It includes all the original material that was eventually cut by the time the show reached Broadway, including the first incarnation of the prologue, the different ending of "Waiting for the Girls Upstairs," the long version of "Can That Boy Foxtrot!", a different version of "The Right Girl" and "Uptown, Downtown," along with various other lyrics differences. The order of "In Buddy's Eyes" and "The Road You Didn't Take" is also reversed, and the Trio is also heard in its original order ("Broadway Baby" comes in between, with "Ah, Paree" at the end). All songs are captured, along with various bits of dialogue.

NOTES: This recording is commonly labeled as "second preview." Fixing a date for this performance has proved elusive. It has circulated with various dates affixed to it (including March 28, April 2, April 4, August 2), none of which seems to be right based on the evidence within the performance. The best guess at this moment is that two New York preview performances were edited together, though if that's the case, it remains puzzling why "Waiting for the Girls Upstairs" is incomplete and why a different version of "The God-Why-Don't-You-Love-Me Blues" wasn't used, as Gene Nelson has major lyric problems.

Also includes a speech by Michael Ball at the end, where he tells the audience continue wearing their masks and listening to the ushers on the way out, as well as announcing the results of that night's football match. NOTES: Audio recording of the first workshop reading from May 14th, 1999 with Eric Idle as The Cat in the Hat. Really obscure and rare find, almost believed to have never existing documentation since it was a private reading. Has nice sound quality, some lyric differences, and high energy from the cast (though when was the OG Seuss cast never NOT consistently amazing?) It’s so incredibly fascinating to see what started it all and to learn what’s here and what’s different compared to the versions we now know today (I’m obsessed with the reading’s version of “Oh The Things You Can Think!” and “Alone in The Universe”). Includes cut scenes of Jojo at school and military, original Gertrude McFuzz solo version of “Notice Me Horton”, and full version of the cut “Lorax” song.
