The Canal Dover Redlegs was founded in 1998, when a group of players with a passion for America’s pastime split from the Canal Fulton Mules to form their own vintage base ball club. From the beginning, the Redlegs have been dedicated to preserving and sharing the early spirit of the game as it was played in the 1860s.
The Redlegs proudly play their home matches at Dover Park, where fans can experience base ball much as it was over 160 years ago. The game is played according to the rules and customs of the 1860–1864 era, meaning no gloves, a lemon peel ball, and solid wooden bats. Every player takes the field in period-accurate uniforms, bringing history to life with every pitch, hit, and catch.
As proud members of the Vintage Base Ball Association (VBBA), the Canal Dover Redlegs honor the traditions of sportsmanship, respect, and community that defined the early days of base ball. More than just a team, the Redlegs are historians on the field, keeping the legacy of mid-nineteenth century base ball alive for generations to enjoy.
