The J.A.F. Stevenson Award was initiated in 1979, by the Society for an “Early-career Investigator" (within the first ten years of receiving their first faculty position) to give a lecture to the Society at its Annual Meeting and that the Lectureship would be called the “J.A.F. Stevenson Lecture” in recognition of a renowned Canadian Physiologist and leader in the activities of several Canadian and international societies.
The first J.A.F. Stevenson Lecturer was Dr. Wayne Lautt, who presented his lecture at the Winter Meeting of the Society in 1980.
