I just received map update in Garmin Express. After update I got message Cannot unlock maps. I tried to delete and upload maps, but message keeps popping up. Software 16.09. Anyone experienced similar?

Synced my watch with Garmin Express and after I unplug it I get the message " Cannot unlock maps" I've had the watch since April with no problems. I reinstalled the maps and still get the same message, though, the maps look fine when using them. Any Ideas? Oh yea, my Fenix 7 "basic model" is doing the same thing.

Has anyone figured out how to fix this issue, just got this error message this monring and tried factory resetting watch and that did nothing. I saw on another post that file D7672050A.img  in the garmin folder on computer maybe needs to be deleted but not sure if we are supposed to delete that file or not?

I would like to get a better understanding of what maps are on my 7x SS. I would also like to delete the golf and ski maps. 5 years ago, I purchased two sets of 24K topo map US (North Central and South Central) that were 100 dollars per SD card.

I assume I can load those, but are those already loaded? Garmin sells 6 regions that are 24K topo maps at 100 bucks each. What size top maps are loaded in the 7X SS? The two SD cards I bought were in 2015. If I load them will Garmin update them if there are updates?

@arandom_gps_user: make sure you have removed the older mapsets from your device. If you have two tiles with the same number, they result in a blank map. You can check those errors with Javawa Device Manager

eTrex10 does support maps. Onlything we need to copy the whole content of the GPS to a computer (for backup purposes) then delete file named gmapbmap from the gps. From the mapsource send the required map and rename the map as gmapbmap then it (GPS) loads the map. I think the device only look for a particular filename (gmapbmap) to load the map.

I am using QGIS to create some maps to load on to a GPS using the plugin. When I display the maps on the GPS the lines are very faint and I can not distinguish colours and some colours vanish altogether. But even the black lines don't stand out.

Using Garmins own vector format would be best for your purpose. It is possible to create Garmin vector maps from Openstreetmap raw data, and add SRTM contour lines to it. But there is no easy way to create OSM raw data out of QGIS. The OGR driver is read-only. One way would be to export shapefiles to GPX, and do the conversion to osm raw format with the JOSM editor. But keep in mind NOT to upload the data on closing the application. e24fc04721
