Ultimately, this is a great way to test-drive the whole disc-to-digital concept. Mere seconds after converting "The Shawshank Redemption," I found I could download or stream it on my iPhone. If I'd purchased it from iTunes, it would have cost me $14.99.

I have updated my ipad 2 to IOS 8 and am using apple TV 3 software version 7.0 (6897.5) but since the IOS update i can no longer stream films from Flixster using air play I keep getting the error "unable to load content"

Can You Download From Flixster

i contacted Flixster over this as I'm having the exact same issue. Ipad, Apple TV are all up to date. Videos airplay from YouTube and other sources but not from Flixster. I was told the issue is with Flixster since the iOS8 update and a Flixster app update should be out soon which will enable AirPlay to Apple tv again.

I went to flixster in UK proxy. refreshed the page in US. typed int he code. Had to link flixster to UV as UV disconnected FlixsterUS from US accounts. On redeem screen I had to select login with facebook (which meant re-enabling my facebook profile) because no other method for logging in would connect even after resetting password. Within seconds all 11 films were ported into my Vudu library HDX. At first they all came up as in purchased, but still showing I do not own them. I refreshed twice and they all loaded correctly.

Flixster was an American social-networking movie website for discovering new movies, learning about movies, and meeting others with similar tastes in movies, currently owned by parent company Fandango. The formerly independent site, allows users to view movie trailers as well as learn about new and upcoming movies at the box office. It was originally based in San Francisco, California and was founded by Joe Greenstein and Saran Chari on January 20, 2006. It was also the former parent company of Rotten Tomatoes from January 2010 to February 17, 2016.[2] On February 17, 2016, Flixster, including Rotten Tomatoes, was acquired by Fandango.[3]

Between November 2006 and January 2007, the number of daily page views reported for Flixster by Alexa Toolbar users rose from fewer than 20 million to around 50 million.[7] Quantcast reported that the number of global daily page views for Flixster.com peaked at 8,331,961 on January 23, 2008, and dropped to 1,325,685 by July 5, 2008.[8] Alexa stopped reporting daily page views as of June 2008; the number of page views for Flixster as a percentage[clarification needed] decreased by almost two-thirds from mid-December 2007 to mid-June 2008.[9]

Flixster's growth was described in the trade press as attributable to "its aggressive viral marketing practices,"[17] including "the automated selection of your email account's entire address book in order to send a Flixster invitation to all of your contacts."[17] Although company claimed this procedure was an industry standard used by other services, Flixster differed in that its system automatically selected all contacts in the user's address book and required the user to manually un-select each address to prevent email from being sent to a user. Cofounder Joe Greenstein described the difference between Flixster and other sites as: "We make it easy to invite your friends. Other sites don't provide good ways for people to spread the word."[17]

As a consequence of its policy of emailing users' entire address books with advertisements for the site, the website was criticized on numerous Internet blogs.[18] At one time, email from Flixster to Hotmail users was being filtered and deleted as spam.[19]

In April 2014, Flixster's app was updated with Chromecast support, allowing users to "cast" movies to a Chromecast-connected device.[27] A streaming-only app, Flixster Video, was also released.[28] The app handled only movie streaming, as this function was removed from the Movies by Flixster app.[28]

For movie lovers and those who cover the industry, Rotten Tomatoes is a popular resource for finding film reviews while Flixster allows fans to buy and rent films as well as get movie reviews from Flixster users.

Both Flixster and Rotten Tomatoes will continue to be available to movie fans as individual properties. Together, Flixster and Rotten Tomatoes give movie audiences an unprecedented total picture of movie trends and opinions, combining half a million reviews from leading critics with 2.3 billion user ratings and reviews.

Flixster unfortunately aren't allowed to playback all movies on all devices. Currently TV shows can only be played back on PC (via the website or the app) and android and iOS devices. Nothing else is able to playback TV shows currently. The app also can't support episodic titles , so the flixster app wouldn't be able to play any of the maze Runner titles, for example, because of a are based of a set of books.

@Anonymous User the Flixter app on Roku went from being a Trailers only app (which Sky were happy to have on their box) to one which supported UV titles. The titles which don't work is an issue with Flixter, I believe that the flag to check if you can watch something is used against their US database and not the UK database which can bring back different results to content you can watch on your mobile/tablet.
