In my Smarthub there are few options. I am trying to add two apps, specifically YouTubeTV and FuboTV but there doesn't seem to be an option to add apps that are not in the store. It's a 4 year old model, I think, UN32J5205AFXZA and Smart Hub seems limited to Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, Vudu, Google Play, Fandango and a browser. There are some other options but nothing I have ever heard of. Is there a way to circumvent this option.

I'm struggling to work out how to add the Justwatch app to my 3-year-old smart TV. Do I need something like a Roku - and which is the best one just for this? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

I have a samsung smart tv model un50nu6900. The smarthub apps (mostly hulu and netflix) keep closing randomly and screen returns to standard tv. I have updated the software to the latest version from the samsung website. No change. Please help.

Hey @Philback37! Please restart the TV: unplug your TV from the wall socket > Wait 30 seconds, then plug your TV back in > Using your remote, turn your TV on. If this doesn't help, try resetting the Smart Hub instead: Menu > Settings > Support > Self diagnosis > Reset the Smart Hub.

As a person who has been dealing with this same problem for over a year, I think it's the software that needs to be updated because my Hulu app CONSTANTLY closes in the middle of me watching an episode of something and then I have to watch ads all over again. Please someone anyone that works for Samsung please fix this problem ASAP.

I hear you spent numerous hours performing manual updates, system restores, smart hub reset, direct Ethernet vs WiFi, cables, deleting. Cache etc Will not play 4K or hardly streams. Contacted Samsung was told my tv was 1 year to old for updates, firmware etc so was more or less screwed. Bought end 15 maybe 16 un60ju7100fxza UHD 4K 3d 240hz refresh rate tv for 2300 to be ahead of the curve when they all went that route to find this out! You have this tv and want 4K expect to by a separate streaming advice if you want to get close to touching what the tv should do. Still a sweet tv with a great picture none the less

I have the same model and same issue. I've had the TV for at least 2 years and tried all the methods you mentioned. It helps for a short while, but I end up having the same issue a month or two later. It's almost to the point where I need to buy a new TV. The picture is perfect, but the apps are almost unusable.

Same here. This issue started a few months after buing our Samsung tv. I have tried so many things and can't get it to stop happening. Watching anything on demand is almost impossible. Is there really no way to fix this?? I won't buy Samsung tvs again in the future if there isn't a fix because it's ridiculous.

@DonGoolsby1

Do you have the 1st generation WDMYCLOUD OS3 Firmware 04.xx.xx? Do you have it set up on your home network? Is your smart TV on the network too? Have you tried to look at anything on the TV?

My TV is a Sony and it does work with the My Cloud. I use the apps that are on my TV for playing music and watching videos. See image below. I can use the browser to open my documents.

I have OS3 and version 4 firmware, I bought the drive around 2015. It is set up on my home network. My Samsung is on the network as well. I have looked on the tv and do not see the WD drive anywhere.

I did have it working at one point, however, when I purchased a new computer a few months back, that is the timeframe when it disappeared from my tv. I went into Twonky and adjusted the settings accordingly with no results. There is no DLNA or SMB option for Samsung smart tv.

Please advise further, Thank, You, Don

For any particular platform, the playback capabilities may be affected by several factors, including the extent to which we can directly test on the platform ourselves, the (Plex) user base on the platform, and more. Some of the platforms will have limited playback capabilities because of these factors. Other platforms receive more customized capabilities.

The app is available on 2016 and newer model year Samsung sets that are Tizen-based. The exception is for users located in China or Iran; the app is not currently available for users in those countries.

The app is available on select, specific TV models and only in the following countries: Australia, Colombia, the European Union, Germany, Great Britain, India, Lithuania, the Philippines, South Korea, Spain, Russia.

While we previously offered apps for the following smart TV platforms and models, they are no longer actively supported. An older version of our app may still be available on the devices, but the old app will not be receiving updates, may not be compatible with newer features or server releases, and could stop being functional in the future.

In this scenario, a fair solution to enjoy your desired apps from your Samsung Smart TV is installing third-party TPK files of them! The internet offers you several how-to guides to accomplish this, but it is natural to find the process a little too complicated. However, fret not, you do not need to be a developer from a Samsung TV app development to install outside apps on your Samsung Smart TV. In this blog, I will try to explain the steps in a way that you can do it on your own TV even if you are not too used to technical jargon.

APK, or Android Package, is a single file that contains all the components required to install and run an application on any Android device. APKs are developed to work on Android devices as they are written in Java. For this very reason, they cannot be run on a Samsung Smart TV as they are powered by Tizen OS. Tizen and Android are both based on Linux, but there are no further similarities between the two. Tizen was developed in C++, whereas Android was developed in Java. Naturally, APK files, that we now know are JAVA-based, would not function on Samsung TVs, and even if you managed to get one on a Samsung Smart TV, your TV device wouldn't be able to identify the APK file or begin its installation. In addition, Samsung TV has security safeguards that prevent anyone from installing APKs from untrusted sources in order to protect the system.

A sound way to get around this is downloading TPK files for the apps you want and then installing them via SDB. Or you can also directly copy them to the TV device and thereafter install these third-party apps on any Samsung smart TV. To find out how to establish a debug bridge and enable your TV to run applications from unknown sources, continue reading.

Tizen OS offers a debug bridge that gets connected through USB or Wi-Fi to debug any Samsung TV, install apps as well as copy data with administrator permissions, similar to the debug bridge for Android.

Firstly, make sure your USB drive is formatted in FAT, exFAT, or NTFS in the case that your Samsung TV is a QHD or an SUHD model. For Full HD Samsung Smart TVs, ensure that the USB drive is formatted in NTFS.

There is indeed no effective way to install or obtain the Google Play Store on your Samsung Smart TV. Even if you discover a TPK file for Google PlayStore, chances are it would not work. Please remember that if under any circumstance, the file appears functional, there are very high chances that the file is a counterfeit piece of malware that might risk the safety of your devices. Nevertheless, there do happen to be some other methods to enjoy third-party applications on your Samsung Smart TV, without actually installing them.

For typical TV viewers who are not familiar with tech speak, installing third-party apps could seem a little intimidating. Additionally, selecting the appropriate TPK files is essential to safeguarding your systems from malware intrusions. I hope this blog will help you install third-party apps on your Samsung Smart TV quite easily. But remember that you can always get help if you need it! It will be a great idea to get in touch with Samsung support for extra assistance if you run into problems while attempting to install third-party apps on your Samsung TV. They are always a good source of personal assistance in this matter and they would also be able to properly inform you if your TV permits the installation of the files.
