My name is Camus Nim (pronounced KAY-muss) and I am an independant musician, songwriter, producer, and artist from Toronto. I make music in all kinds of genres including pop, jazz, rock, and folk.
I have been playing and writing music since I was a kid, and I have developed a passion for writing, recording, and performing my music. The need to write music primarily spawns from my short attention span. I love playing songs by the piano but after a couple of weeks the songs I've been playing get old and I need to make new ones. By writing and recording I can make the music that I love to play and enjoy listening to.Â
Over the last several years I have studied trumpet, and have taught myself to play piano, guitar, and sing, and I have a bit of experience with playing drums and bass. Most of my music features myself playing all of the instruments.
Throughout my admittedly still short career, I have had so many great opportunities that taught me so much about music. I studied trumpet in high school as part of the Regional Arts Program at Cawthra Park SS. In 2018 I did a co-op during grade 11 at a small music studio. While there, I learned all about production, mixing, and beatmaking from various industry professionals. In 2019, I was awarded the Teen Composer Award by the Continuum Ensemble which led to me composing a classical piece for the five member ensemble; the piece was performed by the ensemble live in concert in early 2020. This was an incredible experience and taught me so much about composing classical music, arranging, and collaborating with phenomenal musicians. In February of 2020, I composed a short instrumental piano piece that was used as theme music for a play that was submitted for consideration in the Sears Drama Festival. In the summer of 2020, I released my first ever EP, Invincible, with five songs that I was, and still am, enormously proud of. Near the end of 2020 I began university, studying jazz music at Humber College. In September 2021, I released my first full-length album, Kay-Muss. In 2024, I graduated from Humber with a Bachelors of music and subsequently released my debut studio EP Born Anew in August of that year.
