Camtasia studio is currently only available for the Microsoft Windows platform and can be processor intensive when working with recordings. The user is able to capture video of anything on their computer screen (microphone and webcam input as well), and then edit and produce high-quality clips in many different file formats with a smart, quick to learn, and feature-rich interface.

When I record using Camtasia, layered windows are not recorded from external monitors connected thru the plugable device. Recording is fine on the laptop screen I am using Plugable USB 3.0 (UD-3900) on Windows 10.

Pending that additional information, I just downloaded a trial of the most recent version of Camtasia Studio 8 (version 8.6.0.2079) and was able to capture the monitor connected to a UD-3900 docking station and opened several windows and applications layered on top of one another and things worked as expected. This was on Windows 10 with the Anniversary Update and all cumulative updates applied as of today (one was just released today) using the 8.0 M2 version of the DisplayLink driver (8.0.778.0)

This completely free tool allows you to easily record your computer screen with the advantage of webcam recording and, similar to ScreenRec, audio recording from not just a mic but your computer audio as well.

As i need the recordings to be 30 seconds long, i have a secondary batch file. It doesn't work as intended as i would like to avoid multiple windows executing the commands opening. I know the command taskkill isn't correct and have included it to illustrate what i am intending to achieve.

Sounds like you have done a great job teaching yourself camtasia. To answer your questions, there is no difference as far as uploading to YouTube. Once you are done with a video, no matter what program you edited it on, you can upload it to YouTube assuming it is in one of the many standard formats that YouTube accepts. (flv, mov, mpeg4, wmv, etc.)

Where you put it on the web depends on which hosting solution you have decided upon. YouTube offers free hosting so many people go with that. However, you will not have total control over your videos and YouTube has features many people do not want to put up with so sometimes that is not the best solution unless the need to be free is your overwhelming criteria. I use Veeple as my primary host although I also have videos on this site hosted on all the various video sharing sites. It is indeed possible to put a URL back to your website from your video.
