Our team of writers and evaluators brings together students from diverse academic disciplines who share a commitment to collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. Representing majors such as Nursing and Criminal Justice, we worked together, and we applied Neumann University RISES values - Reverence, Integrity, Service, Excellence, and Stewardship - to our work.
As writers, we sought to communicate clearly, evaluate sources fairly, and uphold academic honesty in every stage of the project. Through mutual respect and open dialogue, we strived to embody Reverence for one another’s perspectives, Integrity in our research and writing, and Excellence in our final work. This project reflects not only our academic skills but also our shared growth as members of Neumann’s honors community. Under the guidance and encouragement of Dr. Jim Kain, we were inspired to think critically, write thoughtfully, and grow as scholars and communicators.

Process For Researchers:
The research process begins with the group convening, where the leader, Jadyn, ensures an equitable start by reading aloud each claim submitted by the claim finders, allowing everyone to select their preferred research focus. Next, the group divides based on topic interest, and the selected topic is logged onto each person's research record, which serves as the central repository for all sources. The team then meticulously evaluates each source one by one, prioritizing thorough research to verify the credibility of the information being assessed. Following source evaluation, the team begins drafting their reports, accommodating each member's unique writing style. Finally, Jadyn conducts a comprehensive review of every report to ensure it meets her quality standards before it is approved and submitted to the writers.
Neumann University is a Catholic institution rooted in the Franciscan tradition, dedicated to educating students in mind, body, and spirit. Guided by the RISES values - Reverence, Integrity, Service, Excellence, and Stewardship - the university encourages students to pursue learning that enriches both their personal development and the common good.
The Honors English Class represents these ideals in action. Through research, analysis, and collaborative writing, students explore complex social, cultural, and ethical issues with intellectual curiosity and respect for truth. This class provides a space for critical inquiry, creativity, and reflection - helping students grow not only as scholars but also as compassionate, responsible members of society.

Claim Finders - Our Purpose:
When finding claims, we start by looking at different sources to find to report on. We then make sure we can find the original source to continue our process. From there, we investigate the author's credentials and credibility. We also investigate the website from which the claim came to determine their purpose. We provide the rest of our team with information on who this claim is reaching as well as the importance of fact-checking it.
