Effective date: September 4, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how the CampTalk Team (“CampTalk,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, retains, and protects information when you use the CampTalk mobile application, related websites, and services (collectively, the “Service”).
By using CampTalk, you acknowledge the practices described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
When you register or use an account, we may collect:
email address and authentication information;
display name, public user identifier, profile photo, and biography;
account preferences, friend-request settings, and membership status; and
information needed to sign you in, protect your session, or process account deletion.
Passwords are used for authentication and should be stored or transmitted using appropriate security safeguards. We do not ask you to send your password by email.
Depending on the features you use, we may collect:
camp titles, cover images, campground types, dates, general or selected map locations, capacity, visibility, joining rules, notes, announcements, and status;
membership applications, invitations, QR or link-sharing information, selected gear, and participation history;
Gear Locker entries, including names, categories, quantities, notes, and images;
friend relationships, requests, blocked-user records, and user or camp reports; and
one-to-one messages, camp-chat messages, and related metadata.
Some profile and camp information is visible to other users according to the feature and the visibility settings you choose. Invitation links and QR codes may provide access to people who receive them.
We collect content you choose to upload, such as profile images, camp covers, gear images, photos, videos, and captions. When you select or capture media, the file may contain metadata created by your device. We may compress, resize, transcode, cache, or otherwise process media so it can be uploaded, displayed, and delivered efficiently.
With your permission, CampTalk may access your location while you use the app to center the map, help select a camp area, estimate distance, and return nearby camps that are visible to you. A camp location selected by a host may be stored and shown in a general or approximate form to eligible users.
CampTalk does not need continuous background location for the features described in the current version. You can deny or revoke location access in iOS Settings, but map centering and nearby discovery may not work.
With your permission, CampTalk may access:
the camera to capture camp moments or scan invitation QR codes;
the photo library to select media or recognize a QR code from an image; and
the microphone when you record video with audio.
These resources are accessed when you choose to use the related feature. You can change permissions in iOS Settings.
All digital purchases are processed through Apple In-App Purchase. Apple processes your payment information. CampTalk does not receive your full payment-card number.
We may receive and process product identifiers, transaction identifiers, purchase status, subscription tier, entitlement status, renewal or expiration information, and coin balances so we can deliver benefits, restore eligible purchases, prevent fraud, and provide support.
We may collect technical information such as device and operating-system type, app version, language, IP address, network status, timestamps, crash diagnostics, security events, feature interactions, and server logs. We use this information to operate, secure, diagnose, and improve the Service.
If you allow notifications, we may receive a device push token and use it to send alerts about camps, applications, announcements, messages, account activity, safety, or service updates. Apple delivers these notifications. You can change notification permissions in iOS Settings. Disabling notifications does not prevent you from using other CampTalk features.
CampTalk requests permission through Apple’s App Tracking Transparency framework before accessing the advertising identifier or tracking your activity across apps or websites owned by other companies for advertising or measurement purposes.
If you select Ask App Not to Track, we will not access the Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) or engage in ATT-defined tracking without another lawful basis and any consent required by Apple or applicable law. Your ATT choice does not prevent collection of first-party operational, security, purchase, and diagnostic information that is not used for cross-app tracking. You can change the ATT setting in iOS Settings.
We may use information to:
create, authenticate, and manage accounts;
operate Gear Locker, camp creation, discovery, nearby search, applications, invitations, chats, moments, and memories;
display content to users based on camp visibility, membership, and blocking settings;
process and verify Apple purchases, activate benefits, maintain coin balances, and restore eligible entitlements;
deliver notifications you permit;
personalize and improve features and recommendations;
detect abuse, investigate reports, enforce rules, prevent fraud, and protect users;
diagnose errors, maintain performance, and secure the Service;
respond to support requests and communicate important service or policy updates; and
comply with legal obligations and establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
Where required, we rely on your consent. We may also process information to perform our contract with you, comply with law, and pursue legitimate interests such as security, service improvement, and fraud prevention, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights.
We may disclose information in the following circumstances:
Your profile, camp details, selected gear, messages, moments, and participation information may be shared with other users as necessary for the feature you choose and the visibility settings of the relevant camp. Public camps may be discoverable more broadly. Friends-only or shared-card camps have more limited discovery, but recipients can still reshare information outside CampTalk.
We may provide information to vendors that perform services on our behalf, such as cloud hosting, databases, media storage and delivery, maps and geocoding, analytics, crash reporting, customer support, security, and push notifications. These providers may use information only to perform contracted services or as otherwise permitted by law.
Apple processes in-app purchases, subscriptions, refunds, and related account functions under Apple’s own terms and privacy policy. We exchange limited transaction and entitlement information as needed to deliver your purchase.
If CampTalk uses an ATT-regulated advertising or measurement service, we will request permission before tracking as Apple defines that term. Where permission is granted, limited device or campaign information may be disclosed for the purposes described in the ATT prompt. You may withdraw permission in iOS Settings.
We may disclose information if reasonably necessary to comply with law or valid legal process; protect users, the public, CampTalk, or third parties; investigate fraud, security incidents, or violations; or establish or defend legal claims. If CampTalk undergoes a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to applicable law and continued protection.
We do not sell personal information for money. We do not disclose personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising without the permission or choice required by applicable law and Apple’s rules.
We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including providing the Service, keeping accounts secure, maintaining transaction records, resolving disputes, enforcing agreements, and meeting legal requirements.
Retention periods vary by data type. Active account and user content may be retained while your account remains open. Deleted content may remain temporarily in backups, logs, or anti-abuse systems. Purchase and transaction records may be retained longer where required for accounting, fraud prevention, tax, or legal compliance. Reports and blocking records may be retained where necessary to protect users and enforce rules.
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, receive a copy of, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal information, and to withdraw consent. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data-protection authority.
You can use CampTalk controls to edit profile information, manage friend requests and blocked users, adjust camp visibility, leave eligible camps, manage iOS permissions, and permanently delete your account. For additional requests, email camptalk@outlook.com. We may verify your identity before fulfilling a request. Certain information may be retained or excluded from a request where allowed by law.
To manage an Apple subscription, use your Apple ID subscription settings. Deleting your CampTalk account does not automatically cancel an Apple subscription.
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information, such as access controls, secure transmission, credential protection, and monitoring. No network, storage system, or method of transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Protect your account credentials, use a unique password, and contact us if you suspect unauthorized access.
CampTalk and its service providers may process information in countries other than the one where you live. Those countries may have different data-protection laws. Where required, we use recognized safeguards for international transfers and take steps designed to protect information consistently with this Policy.
CampTalk is not directed to children under 13, or a higher minimum age where local law requires it. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child who cannot lawfully consent to the Service. If you believe a child has provided information in violation of this section, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
CampTalk may contain links to third-party websites or use services provided by third parties. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, not this Policy. Review those policies before providing information to a third party.
We may update this Policy to reflect changes in the Service, law, or our practices. We will revise the effective date and provide additional notice when required. If a change materially affects processing based on consent, we will request new consent where required.
