Other fun things not on the schedule
~Calm, chill zone with comfy things and soothing things and reflective things provided by Isabel and Noah open to all.
~Post Office for love notes and trinkets will be in the barn. There will be bags, please put your name on a bag so that people may put a cool rock or a love note or a delightful little thing in it for you! If you have sweet little things to share with sweet people, bring em!
~Ultimate frisbee! Lindsay loves ultimate frisbee and would like to play with anyone that would also like to play.
~Stump. This is a game with a stump, a hammer, and some nails. We will play.
~Ping-Pong in the barn!
~Darts in the barn!
~Maybe a secret scavenger hunt.
Bring your swimsuit, instrument, costumes, whatever makes you happy.
Bring your own food. If you want to bring something to share/cook for other people please have a plan of utensils and dishes. One year we had some pals bring food to share but it mostly turned into a lot of dishes for me and a handful of helpful buds to deal with it. I am down to let you use my (Lindsay’s) cabin kitchen, dishes and utensils, but you MUST clean up after yourself and/or find a friend that will help with clean-up.
The nearest grocery store is in Redding about 30 min away.
Tent Camping or Car Camping is available. If you are tent camping, upon arrival drive along the low road until you get to the lawn. Dump your stuff and then park your car by the barn in the designated parking spot on the map. If you are car camping follow the sign to the lot that says car camping and park your car in a smart way. There is also an overflow parking/car camping area that has signage. Use the space thoughtfully.
The House is for family only but if you need help/information they are pretty obliging.
Kids are welcome. Keep an eye on them.
In order to gain entrance you MUST have a TRASH BAG with you that you will fill with your own trash and take with you when you leave. We do not have garbage collection. Please keep this in mind when you party in the barn and if you really want to be best friends with me forever, help remind your buddies not to leave empty cans lying around in the barn after the late night shenanigans. Or help pick it up in the morning, or help me do some can sweeps before ya leave.
Portable water is available. Water stations marked on the map. We will have some jugs near tent camping. If you notice one empty, please bring it to the family house and fill it back up!
Toilets are available in two places. Near my (Lindsay’s) cabin there is the Rustic Relief Station with not one, but 2 toilets next to each other with log walls that offer some concealment while you get to dump a load and gaze at the beautiful hillside. The other toilet is located near the tent camping. We made some cute willow walls for it this year so you don’t have to climb into a stuffy little potty tent!
Camping sink will be set up for your use in tent camping area.
Grill will be set out in the driveway for your use.
Air pumper will be set in the garage for your use as well if you need it for a blow-up bed or anything. If you have an extra air pumper, bring it!
Bring Water shoes and a Floaty (inner tubes are the best) so that you can walk along our secret little trail with us and float down the creek to the beach. It’s delightful, but the ground is rocky and has pokey plants so water shoes are important. Flip flops are not as great because you could lose them during the float.
If anyone makes you feel uncomfortable, please tell me (Lindsay) or anyone in my family and we will help you and escort them off the property. We will not tolerate any disrespectful or violent behavior. My sister is a professional MMA cage fighter, so don’t blow it.
First aid is available at my cabin or at the family house. My Auntie was a nurse so we’ll fix ya up. I’m really good at wrapping wrists and ankles if you get a sprain.
Wildlife in the area includes deer, ducks, lizards, frogs, squirrels, birds, foxes, jack rabbits, turtles, mice. They mostly keep to themselves but do not leave food out overnight. Bears have been known to be in the area but we have seen no bear sign for at least 3 years. A drunk guy in the local saloon told me once he saw a wolverine but… he was drunk.
Dogs that get along with other dogs are allowed. Keep an eye on your dog. If it poops in a place where people can step in it, fling it into a bush or off the path, or somewhere that no one will step in it. We have a pooper scooper in the garage you can use.
Camping etiquette -be considerate of your neighbors. If you’re a messy person like me, keep it contained to your area. If you need to take a wee, find a somewhat discreet place to do it.
Watch out for poison oak. We have done a lot of work to eradicate it from most of the places where fun things are but keep an eye out, those suckers are sneaky. If you don’t know what it looks like, find someone that does so they can show you.
You are welcome to come visit my cabin at any time, but quiet hours are from 4am- 11am cause your girl needs at least those hours to sleep (unless you can obviously see me being a menace and then of course come kick it).
Take care of yourself, take care of your friends.
Love,
French Gulch
