About This Project
I began this writing journey in January of 2020 and have come quite a long way with my writing. When I started, I did not feel like a strong writer but through this process of having to write basically an essay per week I have gained more confidence in my ability to write.
This final project is composed of five parts. The first piece, “A Stranger In Me” was about taking a deeper look inside yourself and through the art of photography, revealing what was “behind the mask” that we tend to wear in our day to day lives and sometimes we do not even realize it. It made you open up a bit to a more vulnerable part of yourself that we sometimes do not usually like to show. The second piece was titled, “Heroes/Villains” which you had to interview either a family member or friend and it allowed you to learn somethings you may have never known about that person and it was quite interesting. The third piece was titled, “Place of Mind'' which, again, through the art of photography was a glimpse into an important place in my life which had the greatest influence on me and kind of helped make me into the person I am today. The fourth piece was titled, “Why the Hate?” which was a bit of a short story about two friends with the opposite political stance. That one was fun to write because while it did require research it was not your standard research paper, you got to take that research and make a story out of it. The final piece was titled, “Empathy Challenge” where you got to make an art piece, either a painting, poem, short film, etc. and relate that piece back to the theme of empathy because in the work right now there is a divide in empathy due to the Covid-19 pandemic that is happening.
I think the strongest part of my writing was my use of research because I tried to make sure the sources I used were as credible as possible because I did not want to spread false information since most of my writing toward the end had to do with Covid-19 and the president. I believe the way I structured my writing was another one of my strong suits because I tried to keep the pieces as organized as possible and I believe my conclusions did a good job at pulling the whole piece together.
In the end, all five pieces really made you think and had you look at not only, life but yourself a little differently. It made you look a bit deeper inside yourself, look and explore a meaningful person in your life a bit differently through asking questions we would not usually think to ask. It made you look at a place that had an impact in your life in a way you probably would not have looked otherwise, these pieces had you look at something that is usually a pretty controversial thing through a different point of view and it had you look at what is going on in the world and the lack of empathy people tend to have toward each other. Writing all five pieces was really fascinating and I really enjoyed writing them all.
