NONRESPONSE & SURVEY PARTICIPATION

Youth nonresponse is an important challenge for longitudinal surveys, as young people are often more difficult to retain in the panel and their nonresponse can lead to biased estimates and reduced data quality.

This project, conducted as part of the Understanding Society Research Data Fellowship, investigates the underlying mechanisms of youth nonresponse, with a particular focus on how life events and transitions affect young people’s participation in panel surveys.

Understanding these mechanisms can help identify when and why young people are more likely to drop out and inform strategies to prevent nonresponse in future waves of Understanding Society.
