2023-2024 Dance Team Tryout Information

Dear Student Athlete,

I am excited to hear that you are interested in trying out to be a Cameron University Dancer. I am looking for exceptional athletes to fulfill the role of ambassador for the University! To be eligible to tryout or attend open gyms, we will need the following from you:

1. Proof of acceptance or current student status (acceptance letter or student id card)

2. Dance Team Tryout Application

3. Completed Student Athlete Tryout Packet (this includes copy of insurance card and current physical) *CLEARANCE TO PARTICIPATE IS DETERMINED BY THE ATHLETIC TRAINING DEPARTMENT UPON SUBMISSION OF STUDENT TRYOUT PACKET

Tryout Information

1. In order to participate in tryouts, students must have completed a Student Athlete Tryout Packet, Dance Team Tryout Application, and proof of acceptance or student id.

2. The Cameron University coach will choose team members with the assistance of any independent judge(s).

3. The decisions of the coach and judges are final. If you have questions concerning the procedures for tryouts please make sure that you ask them prior to the date of tryouts.

4. Dance tryouts are closed to the public, and dancers must be present for tryouts and evaluations, unless there is a unique situation that is approved by the head coach and staff prior to the start of tryouts and/or evaluations begin.

5. Athletes making the team will need to practice and exhibit the same skills displayed at tryouts throughout the season on basketball court. If the dancer cannot practice and exhibit the skills, he/she may be ineligible to dance. 

TRYOUT REQUIRMENTS:

Athletes will be judged on collegiate appearance, athletic ability, leaps, turns, dance, and knowledge of material.

• Double Pirouette 

Jump & Leaps

• Side Leap

• Right & Left Jetes

• Other various level skills will be reviewed and scored at the discretion of the coach and judges

Material

• Fight Song

• Dance

Tryout Attire

• Black Sports Bra

• Black Shorts

• Sneakers

• Jazz Shoes

• Natural, Game Day makeup

• Hair MUST be pulled out of face
