My experience with UX design started simply, creating UIs for college software projects that were little more than a series of buttons and labels randomly thrown around a page.
These early designs where functional but left a lot to be desired, after a few years of gradual improvement I was offered the opportunity to earn professional certificates from Google, the most interesting and first of these I started was the Google UX design professional certificate: https://www.coursera.org/professional-certificates/google-ux-design
This certificate provided a thorough breakdown and explanation of the field of UX design and helped me significantly in understanding how to design a good UI and a good, user centric experience.
My goal when desiging the exhibition curator project was fairly simple, I wanted to provide an accessible and easy to navigate UI that also looked good.
To that end I sketched out ideas first based on the client's desired user flow (homepage -> search -> pick results -> exhibition) and refined it with the help of testers into a clean and easy to follow solution.
To aid with ease of use I kept the default react colour scheme to provide familiarity and to ensure accessibility, I also made the search bar and the "search" and "add to exhibition" buttons large and distinct for the same reason.
Finally to make the site look good I researched similar sites and took inspiration so that I could focus the user on the critical path and keep the site looking modern (the search bar being most of the fold, the homepage layout and the design of the exhibition entries are the most prominent examples).
Click on any of the above projects for a detailed case study (this will take you to a separate UX portfolio site).
Simple e-book server
A small project intended to allow me to store e-books on a network device and access them via a web UI.
Early on in the process of creating the service I used Adobe XD to create a visual design. The design helped me to visualise the end product, layout elements and try out design options (for example 3 different types of corners for the book collections are shown in the library page).
The technical side of the project is still a work in progress, so I provided an image of the design in Adobe XD's prototype mode.
