Nam Dictionary is a general-audience English dictionary and vocabulary app.

Unofficial app

This app is unofficial. It is not Cambridge Dictionary, and it is not connected to Cambridge Dictionary or Cambridge University Press. The app does not use the Cambridge Dictionary trademark, name, or logo, and it does not copy that dictionary's website or content.

Who this notice is for

This notice explains what Nam Dictionary does with information. It matches the behavior of the app and the Data safety form in Google Play Console. The app is not directed to children under 13.

Information the app does not ask for

The app does not ask you to create an account. It does not ask for your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, precise location, school, or date of birth.

Information that stays on this device

Favorites, vocabulary lists, notes, recent searches, quiz scores, study progress, and settings for theme, text size, accent, translation language, reminders, study level, and daily goal are stored in the app's private storage on the device. The developer does not receive this information. You can clear search history in Settings. Uninstalling the app deletes this local data.

Dictionary search

When you look up a word, that word is sent to a dictionary service so the app can show meanings, examples, and pronunciation audio when the service provides them. The request is used only to show the result. Do not type a person's name, address, or other personal details into search.

Translation

If you turn on a translation language other than English, a short English definition is sent to a translation service so the app can show a translation. If translation stays on English, that definition is not sent.

Voice search

The microphone is used only when you tap the microphone button. The app does not save the recording. Speech is recognized by the speech service already on the device. You can refuse the microphone permission and still type a search.

Copied text

If a word is already copied on the device, the app may offer to look it up. That text is not sent anywhere unless you choose to search it.

Reminders

Study reminders are optional and are scheduled on the device. The app does not use notification permission to collect personal information.

Advertising

The app shows banner ads and full-screen ads from Google AdMob. To provide and measure those ads, Google may process the advertising ID, device information such as device model and language, IP address, and general ad interactions. The app does not sell personal information. You can reset or delete the advertising ID in your device settings.

Children

Nam Dictionary is a general-audience app. It is not primarily directed to children under 13, and it does not knowingly collect personal information from a child. A child is not asked for a name, email, phone number, school, photo, contacts, precise location, or date of birth. There is no public profile. Recent searches stay on the device until they are cleared in Settings. A parent can also turn translation off so definitions are not sent to the translation service.

Your choices

Clear search history in Settings. Turn translation back to English if you do not want definitions sent for translation. Deny the microphone if you do not want voice search. Reset the advertising ID in the device settings. Uninstall the app to remove its local data.
