As a teacher, you should let your students know that you have high expectations and that you know they have the ability to succeed (Graham & Taylor, 2022). Faith in your own students reduces low self-efficacy by teaching them that they aren't innately "bad" or "good" at certain tasks. Additionally, student success should never be attributed to luck, as students who believe that luck plays a factor in achievement will also have lower self-efficacy (Graham & Taylor, 2022).
This may seem counterintuitive, but teachers should also avoid praising children for simply their effort, as this indirectly tells students that the teacher may know that they aren't high achievers, and there isn't anything they can do to change this (Graham & Taylor, 2022).
By the time kids reach 9-10 years of age, they have the ability to understand the different between innate ability and effort contributions (Graham & Taylor, 2022).Â
