I'm sure we've all woken up on a Saturday morning and woken up to see a blizzard of snow outside in Calgary. I've also been surprised by the circumstances, and it amazes me to see such a big difference and transition in our weather over 8 hours. It was only a week ago when things felt like an oven. It amazes me to see how yesterday was just an ordinary cloudy day; over an overnight period, that mood transitions into what made me feel like Christmas. The transition from summer to fall to soon-to-be winter. It fascinates me as I see once an environment full of life- of kids playing outside, insects thriving to an oven-thawing sun. Then, to a depressing, cloudy, and dead environment where all the animals have migrated, all the trees begin their transition for winter over just a week. During the heat-encroaching September, I hear kids chanting from the high school next door and the construction going on nearby. During winter, that mood has faded. Everything in the environment seems to have died, including the noises. All I see on the fields behind our school lies plastic and seagulls seeking an early morning snake. This transition also reminds me how fast time flies by because, to me, it only felt like a few weeks since the summer break, when the sun was blinding my eyes. That joy of getting to play outside has faded—the feeling of the sun has disappeared. I sit and reflect outside, how fast things the mood and our environment could change. Sometimes, I reflect how I'm in grade 8. I feel like only a month has passed since I was in elementary, and getting to have fun with my friends outside. As we are approaching the next winter season, I hope everyone can seek and adapt to our environment outside because you know how things are in Canada- winter months last a very long time. And I wish everybody a Happy Halloween as it only lies a week away.
