Application Process

• The deadline for applications for the Fall 2021 Cohort is January 15, 2021.
• Be sure to complete both applications and upload transcripts and letters of recommendation by this date.
• Acceptance to the program is usually a very competitive process with over 200 applicants for 24 positions, so it is very important to get experience in the mental health field and to know what an MFT and School Counselor do in their work. Below is the link for more information.
• The minimum GPA requirement for our program is 3.0.
• We accept students from all majors.
• We do not require the GRE.
• We accept students once per year for the Fall Semester.
• Applications are due in January for Fall admittance.
• In order to be considered for admittance to the SBFC program, you must attend an on-campus, in-person interview. We do not offer online interviews.

Once our application window opens, you will have to first apply to the university through the general Cal State system. Then, you will apply to our specific program using Cal State LA's system. Your application will not be reviewed by a faculty member until after the application deadline. You will be contacted via email if your application has been declined, or if you have been selected for an in-person interview. If you have been selected for an in-person interview, further information will be provided to you via email.

We will hold our online information session on October 8th, 2020 from 12pm -2pm.

Please check the home page of this website and/or our university website in September to see the scheduled dates of these sessions. You do not need a webcam to participate and may call in if you'd like.
