Nearly all CSU campuses have already begun migrating services to off-premises hosts, both in the form of "cloud" services and in other modes. There is substantial expertise but a lack of knowledge sharing, inefficiencies, and sub-optimization.
Now is an excellent time to take advantage of the knowledge within the CSU as well as at the UC and other education enterprises to develop a coherent strategy to help guide campuses to make cost-efficient cloud investments and manage risk. Cal State Innovate can help support development of cloud best practices, encourage appropriate experimentation in new modes, and create reference architectures that will help campuses move faster and with more confidence.
