I'm a mixed-methods policy researcher, demographer, and Assistant Professor at the Sandra Rosenbaum School of Social Work at UW-Madison.
My work focuses on social policies related to aging, disability, and poverty in the United States. My current projects use data from state agencies, surveys, and interviews to explore the role age plays in structuring the U.S. safety net and identify who is disadvantaged by age-based policies.
I have a Ph.D. in Public Policy & Management from the Evans School of Public Policy & Governance at the University of Washington. Prior to my doctoral studies, I was a policy analyst and advocate in Sacramento, California. There, I developed the questions that eventually became my research agenda.
My name is pronounced KAH-lee FREE-tag. My last name is German (it means Friday!), but we pronounce it the Americanized way.
