Abstract

We are going to study and model briefly the damped oscillatory motion. In order to understand damped oscillatory motion effectively, we shall first have a small introduction about undamped oscillatory motion. In real life, we come across several examples in which this concept plays a vital role in their occurrence. For instance, a very come example is of a swing - after giving a single push to the swing, you will find that slowly and steadily it slows down and after sometime it comes to rest. The reason behind this action can be well explained using the concept of damped oscillatory motion. This kind of behavior is also observed in electrical devices also, for example - the response of RLC circuit to a electric pulse input resembles to that of the damped oscillatory motion (where R stands for resistance, L for inductance and C for capacitance).
