Testing Process and Design Iteration

Our testing process was trying to get our mouth-guard to be able to read the CO2 admission and transfer it to calories. We did this by uploading the code to the small arduino on the mouth-guard and breathing normally. By breathing normally the CO2 monitor picked up the CO2 admission and transfered it to the computer which then showed the amount of calories you burned. It took a couple of tries to perfect the process but we got it done.

Our design took a while to perfect. Fitting an arduino, CO2 monitor, battery, Rf transiever, and wires wasnt easygoing. with the help my my colleagues, steady hands and a lot of planing we got it done and the final product is shown.

Reflection on reviewer feedback:

We found out that most of the people that we asked (63%) sometimes or continuously find themselves having trouble losing weight. Our project will try to help them with this problem.

We also found out that from the people who said they work out (either consistently or not so consistently), most of them saw a little bit of results but not what they really wanted. Our project will hopefully help them see more results and help guide them to lose more weight.

We also found out that 94% of the people that we asked said that they either think that this would work or that they would love to try. This shows that many people would like to try it and would buy it. This means that hopefully we could be able to sell a lot of these and it could do well in the market.

85% of the people we asked said that they would be comfortable wearing the mouthguard for at least half of the time that they are working out. This shows us that it won't be a problem if people have to wear the mouthguard while working out, which again shows that it could do well in the market.

Although most people said that they think it should be priced from $25-$50, the cost to make it was $67.70, therefore, we decided to sell it at $80.00. Although that's more than these people would like, compared to our competitors who are priced at $250.00 +, it's a great deal.

Future work/improvements

  1. We would like to make it Bluetooth so you don't have to carry the whole thing with you.

  2. We would like to make it a different way so the wires aren't hanging around the mouthguard.

  3. We would like to branch out into bigger objects such as masks which have enough space to disguise the wires and make it look nicer.

Business Model Outline:

We are selling to consumers as of now, but we will hopefully start selling to businesses such as health and fitness clubs in the future.

We are selling our project for $80.00 rather than our competitors who are selling it for $250.00 +. We are hoping that the great price will attract consumers to us.

We tried to choose a problem that was very relatable. When we realized how many people were overweight, we decided that we wanted to help these people, and the fact that this problem is so relatable to so many people gave us a big market to work with and hopefully our project will therefore become popular and will be a top seller.
