What students, families, and employers need to know about Calcasieu Connect.

Who Can Participate?

Calcasieu Connect opportunities are available to eligible Calcasieu Parish School Board high school students participating in Work-Based Learning. Individual opportunities may have specific requirements based on grade level, age, schedule, transportation, career interest, or employer needs.

Students must meet school and program expectations and complete all required Work-Based Learning documentation before beginning a placement.

Ways to Get Involved

Guest Speaker

Help students learn about career paths, workplace expectations, and industry opportunities.

Facility Tour

Give students a firsthand look at daily operations, careers, and professional environments.

Job Shadow

Students gain insight into responsibilities, routines, and skills needed for success.

Internship

Students build practical skills while working alongside professionals and completing meaningful tasks.

Cooperative Education

Students combine classroom learning with real job experience to prepare for future careers.

Calcasieu Connect works with local businesses and community organizations to create meaningful Work-Based Learning experiences for students across Calcasieu Parish. Whether you can host an intern, provide a job shadow, offer a facility tour, or simply speak to students about your industry, there is a way to get involved.

Student Expectations

Maintain professional attendance and communication.
Follow employer and school expectations.
Complete required paperwork and Work-Based Learning assignments.
Submit timesheets and other required documentation on time.
Represent their school and Calcasieu Parish School Board professionally.

Employer Expectations

Provide students with meaningful workplace experiences.
Assign a supervisor or mentor.
Communicate with the student and Work-Based Learning staff as needed.
Provide periodic feedback and evaluations.
Maintain a safe, professional work environment.

Compensation

Calcasieu Connect offers both district-paid and employer-paid opportunities. Students in qualifying district-paid internships receive $1,000 after successfully completing the required 107 hours. Students in employer-paid positions are paid directly by the employer according to the employer’s normal payroll practices.
