Privacy Policy
Last Updated: April 20, 2026
Smart Calculator & Calc App (“the App”) is a simple calculator, calc, and Android calculator designed for daily math use. This Privacy Policy explains how Halifax Developer (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use the App.
We do not require you to create an account or provide any personal information to use the App. Calculation history, saved results, and preferences are stored locally on your device. Any data recovery operations happen locally on your device.
This Privacy Policy describes the information we may collect, how it is used, and your rights regarding that information. It applies to the Smart Calculator & Calc App available on Google Play.
We aim to be transparent and comply with applicable laws, including GDPR (for users in the European Union), CCPA/CPRA (for California residents), and CalOPPA (California Online Privacy Protection Act), as well as Google Play Developer Program Policies on User Data and Data Safety.
We do not collect any personal data directly through the App. No names, email addresses, phone numbers, or other identifiable information are required or gathered by us.
The App may collect or access limited technical or device-related information solely to provide core features:
Calculation inputs and results — processed and stored locally on your device (e.g., via Room database or DataStore for history and preferences).
Device permissions — used only for the specific purposes listed in the Permissions section below.
Non-personal usage data — such as app crashes (via Firebase Crashlytics) or general analytics (via Firebase Analytics) to improve stability and performance. This data is anonymized where possible and does not identify you personally.
All local data (calculation history, settings, preferences) stays on your device and never leaves it through our App unless you explicitly use a network-dependent feature (like currency exchange rates).
Where GDPR applies, our processing relies on:
Legitimate interests — to provide and improve the App’s functionality, ensure security, and deliver a good user experience.
Contractual necessity — to fulfill the basic functions of the calculator App you choose to use.
Consent — where required (for example, for certain non-essential features or notifications). You can withdraw consent at any time through device settings.
We do not process sensitive personal data.
The App requests only the minimum permissions necessary to function properly. Here is a clear explanation of each:
INTERNET (android.permission.INTERNET) Allows the App to access the internet. This is needed to fetch real-time external data, such as currency exchange rates or other online calculations when you use those specific features.
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE (android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE) Allows the App to check whether the device has an active internet connection (Wi-Fi, mobile data, or none). This helps avoid failed API calls and improves reliability and user experience.
VIBRATE (android.permission.VIBRATE) Allows the App to provide subtle haptic (vibration) feedback when you press calculator buttons. This enhances the tactile user interaction.
POST_NOTIFICATIONS (android.permission.POST_NOTIFICATIONS) Allows the App to send push notifications. These may include feature announcements, important updates, or reminders about new calculator tools. You can manage or disable notifications anytime in your device settings.
You can review and control these permissions at any time through your Android device settings. We do not use permissions for any purpose beyond what is described.
Most data is stored locally on your device using secure Android components such as Room (for structured local database) and DataStore (for preferences). This means calculation history and settings do not leave your device through the App.
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect any data that does leave the device (for example, API calls for currency rates). However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Firebase services (Crashlytics, Analytics, etc.) follow Google’s security standards. For details, see Google’s privacy information.
The App uses several well-known open-source and third-party libraries and SDKs to provide a smooth, reliable experience. We explain each below along with their purpose. These libraries may have their own privacy practices:
Hilt (Dependency Injection) — from Google/Dagger. Used to manage dependencies cleanly across the app for better architecture and testability. More information: Google Privacy Policy.
ViewModel (Lifecycle Management) — from Android Jetpack. Keeps calculation states and data alive during screen rotations. Part of AndroidX; see Google Privacy Policy.
Fragment KTX — from Android Jetpack. Simplifies code for managing screens. See Google Privacy Policy.
Room (Local Database) — from Android Jetpack. Provides safe, structured local storage for calculation history and preferences. See Google Privacy Policy.
Glide (Image Loading) — for efficiently loading icons, currency flags, or other images with caching. Glide is an open-source library by Bumptech. It primarily handles local or remote image resources you choose to display. See Glide’s GitHub for more: https://github.com/bumptech/glide (no separate privacy policy for the library itself; it processes image data you provide).
Retrofit + Gson and OkHttp — from Square. Used for safe network communication and JSON handling when fetching external data like currency rates. OkHttp includes logging only during development. See Square’s practices via Google Privacy Policy where applicable, or Square’s open-source repositories.
Lottie — from Airbnb. Displays lightweight, high-quality animations (e.g., loading indicators). Open-source; processes animation files included in the App.
DataStore (Preferences) — from Android Jetpack. Modern, asynchronous storage for user settings like theme or language. See Google Privacy Policy.
Firebase SDK (Analytics, Crashlytics, Messaging, Firestore) — from Google. Used for:
Crash reporting to fix bugs quickly.
Anonymous analytics to understand usage and improve the App.
Push notifications.
Limited remote configuration. Firebase processes data in accordance with Google’s policies. For full details: Firebase Privacy and Security and Google Privacy Policy.
We do not share personal data with these libraries beyond what is necessary for their technical function, and most processing remains local.
The App displays ads through AdMob (Google), AdX, and Facebook (Meta) Audience Network. These services may collect device identifiers, IP address, and usage data to show relevant ads and measure performance.
Google AdMob / AdX: See Google Advertising Policies and Google Privacy Policy.
Facebook (Meta) Audience Network: See Meta Privacy Policy.
Firebase Analytics provides non-personal usage insights. You can limit ad personalization through your device settings (Google Ads settings or device advertising ID options).
We do not link this data to any personal information we hold (since we hold none).
The App itself does not use traditional web cookies. However, the advertising and analytics services mentioned above may use device identifiers, advertising IDs, or similar technologies on their end. Their practices are governed by their own policies (linked above).
Since we do not collect personal data directly, there is no detailed personal data processing by us. Any data processed by third-party ad or analytics services is handled according to their policies. Local data on your device remains under your control.
Local data (history, preferences) remains on your device until you clear it or uninstall the App. We do not retain personal data on our servers.
Uninstalling the App removes all associated local data from your device.
The App offers in-app purchases and paid subscriptions for premium features.
All payments and subscriptions are handled safely by Google Play Billing. We do not collect, store, or see your payment details such as card information or Google account passwords.
Subscriptions: They renew automatically unless you cancel before the next billing date. Manage or cancel anytime from your Google Play account settings. If you cancel, you keep premium features until the current period ends.
Purchase Information: Google may share limited, non-personal details with us (e.g., subscription status) so we can unlock features.
Refunds & Cancellations: All refund requests go through Google Play according to their rules.
Third-Party Sharing: We do not share your purchase or subscription information with any third parties except as required by Google for payment verification.
All in-app purchases and subscriptions follow Google Play Terms of Service and Google Privacy Policy.
If GDPR applies to you, you have rights to:
Access the information we hold about you (contact us).
Request correction or deletion.
Object to or restrict processing.
Data portability (where applicable).
Since we hold no personal data, these rights primarily relate to any third-party data (ads/analytics) or local device data you control. Contact us to assist with third-party requests where possible.
California residents have rights to:
Know what personal information is collected and shared.
Request deletion.
Opt out of “sale” or sharing of personal information (we do not sell data).
Non-discrimination for exercising rights.
Again, since we collect no personal data directly, these rights apply mainly to third-party services. You can manage advertising preferences through device settings.
We do not respond to “Do Not Track” signals from browsers because the App is a native Android application. You can limit tracking through device advertising settings or by disabling personalized ads.
Any data sent to Google (Firebase, AdMob) or Meta may be transferred and processed in the United States or other countries. These companies provide appropriate safeguards as required by law. For details, refer to their privacy policies linked above.
The App does not engage in or promote malware, unauthorized network access, or any harmful activities. We use standard Android practices to ensure safe operation.
The App may contain links to external sites (for example, in help or update notices). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those external sites. Please review their policies.
The App does not target or attract children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe we have such data, please contact us.
We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government request, or to protect our rights, safety, or property.
We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally to reflect changes in the App or legal requirements. The “Last Updated” date at the top will change. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy. We encourage you to review it periodically.
