Question

Answer

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up, no login and no password.

Do you collect my name, email or phone number?

No.

What does leave my device?

The calculus question you submit — typed text and/or the photo you choose — plus a security token.

Where does it go?

To Google's Gemini AI models, through Firebase AI Logic (Google), to generate your solution.

Do you train AI models on my content?

No.

Do you show ads or track me across other apps?

No ads, no advertising identifier, no cross-app tracking.

Do you collect my location?

No. The App never requests location permission.

Where is my saved work stored?

On your device only. Your history, flashcards, quizzes, cheat sheets and tutor chats are never uploaded to us.

Can I delete my data?

Yes, at any time. Delete individual items in the App, or delete the App to remove everything.

Do you sell my data?

No. We never have and never will.

1. Who we are

Calculus AI ("the App") is developed and published by an independent developer ("we", "us", "our"), who acts as the data controller for the purposes described in this policy.

Contact: eddietwchan@gmail.com

This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the App. It applies to the iOS and Android versions of Calculus AI.

2. Our approach in one paragraph

Calculus AI is built as a local-first app. There is no user account and no server of ours that stores your data. Your questions, solutions, flashcards, quizzes, cheat sheets and tutor conversations live in the App's private storage on your own device. The only time your content leaves your device is when you ask the App to solve something: at that moment, the question and/or photo you submitted are sent to Google's Gemini AI service so that a solution can be generated and returned to you. We never receive a copy of it ourselves, and we do not keep it on any server we control.

3. What we do not collect

We want to be explicit, because most apps do collect these things:

4. What is processed when you use an AI feature

4.1 The content you submit

When you ask the App to solve or explain something, you may provide:

4.2 Where it goes

That content is transmitted over an encrypted HTTPS connection to Google's Gemini models via Firebase AI Logic (a Google service), operating on Google Cloud infrastructure. Google is an independent third party; it is not our agent and it processes the content under its own terms.

In plain terms: your maths question and your photo are sent to Google's AI to be solved. That is what makes the App work. It is the only reason any of your content ever leaves your device.

We do not operate this service ourselves and we do not receive, store or have access to a copy of your submitted content. Our own infrastructure stores none of it.

4.3 What Google does with it

According to Google's terms for the enterprise service this App uses (the Agent Platform Gemini API, formerly Vertex AI):

You can read Google's own commitments in the Google Privacy Policy and the Firebase AI Logic documentation.

4.4 What we never do with it

We do not:

4.5 Your consent

The first time you use an AI feature, the App shows you a clear notice naming Google Gemini as the AI provider and describing exactly what is sent, and asks for your explicit permission before anything is transmitted. Consent is stored on your device. You can withdraw it at any time in Settings → AI Data Sharing, and the App will then stop sending your content to the AI service (AI features will be unavailable, but your saved library remains accessible). You can also simply decline — the App will not crash or misbehave, and no content is sent.

5. Camera and photo library

6. Subscriptions and payments

Calculus AI Pro is an auto-renewable subscription sold through the Apple App Store (and, on Android, Google Play).

7. Technical data generated for security and configuration

These are not used to identify or profile you:

8. What is stored on your device

The App keeps the following in its private storage area on your device. None of it is uploaded to us:

What

Details

Solution history

The question text, the solution, the working steps, the explanation, the date, the processing time, and a copy of the submitted photo.

Saved photos

A copy of each photo you submit, kept in the App's private storage so your history entry displays correctly.

Flashcards

AI-generated cards you have created, plus their mastery state.

Quizzes

Generated questions, your answers and scores.

Cheat sheets

AI-generated formula references you have saved.

AI Tutor chats

The full message history of your tutor conversations.

Preferences

Your chosen theme, language, consent choice, and internal counters (for example, how many free solutions you have used and whether the App has already offered you a rating prompt).

Subscription status

Whether your Calculus AI Pro subscription is currently active.

You are in control of all of it:

Because this data never reaches us, we cannot see it, recover it, or hand you a copy of it — and nobody else can either.

Device backups. If you have iCloud Backup or computer backups enabled for your device, your device backup may include this App's private data, as Apple provides. Those backups are encrypted and managed by Apple under Apple's terms; they are not accessible to us. You can exclude or delete backups through your device settings.

9. Sharing and exporting

10. Third parties

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share it only as described below:

Recipient

What it receives

Why

Google (Firebase AI Logic / Gemini)

The question text and/or photo you submit, and your App language

To generate your solution

Google (Firebase App Check)

A device attestation token

To prevent abuse of the AI service

Google (Firebase Remote Config)

A configuration request (IP address, as inherent to any web request)

To deliver app settings

Superwall

Anonymous subscription and app-lifecycle events

To present and validate subscription offers

Apple

Your purchase and subscription transaction

To process payment and validate entitlement

Your device platform

Standard network metadata

To route the requests described above

We have no other third parties: no advertising networks, no data brokers, no analytics providers, no crash-reporting services, no social media SDKs, no AI providers other than Google.

We may also disclose information if we are legally required to do so — but note that we hold essentially no information about you to disclose. If we are ever compelled to hand over data, we will notify affected users unless legally prohibited.

11. Retention

Data

How long it is kept

Saved solutions, photos, flashcards, quizzes, cheat sheets, tutor chats

On your device, until you delete it. We keep nothing.

Preferences, consent choice, subscription status

On your device, until you delete the App or clear the data.

Content sent to the AI service

Not retained by us. Retained briefly by Google for security and abuse-prevention purposes under Google's terms.

Purchase and subscription records

Retained by Apple (and Google) under their policies.

Security / configuration requests

Transient; standard provider log retention applies.

12. Security

Because we hold no user database, there is no central store of yours to be breached. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

13. International transfers

The App's AI processing is performed by Google on Google Cloud infrastructure, which may involve processing your content on servers located outside your country — including in the United States and other regions where Google operates. For users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, these transfers are covered by Google's contractual safeguards (including the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and, where applicable, the EU–US Data Privacy Framework) under Google's role as the service provider.

14. Your privacy rights

14.1 Everyone

Because we hold no account and no server-side copy of your data, there is nothing for us to retrieve, correct, port or erase on our side — the controls are in your hands and in the App.

14.2 If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland (GDPR / UK GDPR)

You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to processing, and the right to data portability and to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

14.3 If you are in California (CCPA / CPRA)

14.4 If you are elsewhere

If your jurisdiction grants you rights over your personal data, contact us at the address in §18 and we will help within the limits of what we hold — which, as explained, is nothing beyond what is on your own device.

15. Children's privacy

Calculus AI is an educational study aid intended for secondary-school and university students. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Parents and guardians: if you are concerned about a child's use of the App, you can delete all saved data at any time from within the App, or by uninstalling it. If you believe a child has submitted personal information to the AI service, contact us and we will advise you.

Note that the App's App Store age rating reflects its content, not a statement that it is directed at children.

16. About AI-generated content

The App's solutions, explanations, flashcards, quizzes and cheat sheets are generated by an AI model. They may be incomplete, inaccurate or wrong. Always check AI-generated mathematics against your textbook or teacher before relying on it — especially for graded work. The App is a study aid, not a substitute for instruction.

This section is about accuracy rather than privacy, but we think you should see it here too. The full terms governing your use of the App are Apple's Standard End User License Agreement.

17. Changes to this policy

If we change how the App handles your information, we will update this policy and revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes — for example, a new AI provider or a new category of data — will be highlighted in the App before they take effect, so that you can review them and decide whether to continue. We will not apply a materially different use to information you have already submitted without asking you first.

18. Contact

Questions, requests or complaints about privacy:

Email: eddietwchan@gmail.com

We aim to respond within 7 days. If you are not satisfied with our response and you are in the EEA or the UK, you have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.
