Dr. Isinsu Baylam Toker will serve as the faculty advisor for Cal Poly Women in Physics (WiP) club during the 2025-2026 academic year.
Dr. Isinsu Baylam Toker served on the organizing committee for the annual Conference for Undergraduate Women and Gender Minorities in Physics (CU*iP), hosted at Cal Poly on January 24–26, 2025. The regional APS event brought together undergraduate students from across California to network, share research, and explore career opportunities in physics. Dr. Toker also led a hands-on laser workshop, introducing participants to fundamental laser concepts and applications.

Dr. Isinsu Baylam Toker contributed to the children’s activity book Light: A Spectrum of Opportunity (SPIE, 2024; ISBN: 978-1-5106-6888-1), co-authored with D. Sampson, A. Azzolin, A. Curatolo, G. R. Untracht, and P. Wijesinghe. The book introduces young readers to light, optics, and photonics through engaging activities and illustrations.

Dr. Isinsu Baylam Toker participated as a panelist in the Women in STEM session of the Rose in Science event, organized by the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics, and Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The online panel highlighted the experiences and contributions of women scientists in physics and related fields.
Dr. Isinsu Baylam delivered an online OSA Traveling Lecturer presentation for the OSA Student Chapter at MAMOC–OSA, Muhammed Abdurahiman Memorial Orphanage College, Mukkam, Kerala, India. Her talk, “Graphene-Based Nanomaterials and Their Use as Saturable Absorbers to Generate Femtosecond Pulses from Solid-State Lasers,” focused on the role of graphene-based saturable absorbers in femtosecond pulse generation.
Dr. Isinsu Baylam delivered an online OSA Traveling Lecturer presentation for the OSA Student Chapter at the University of Dayton, Dayton, OH, USA. Her talk, “Graphene-Based Nanomaterials and Their Use as Saturable Absorbers to Generate Femtosecond Pulses from Solid-State Lasers,” was followed by a discussion and mentorship session with students.
Dr. Isinsu Baylam visited the University of California, Santa Barbara, as an OSA Traveling Lecturer. She delivered a talk, “Graphene-Based Nanomaterials and Their Use as Saturable Absorbers to Generate Femtosecond Pulses from Solid-State Lasers,” and led a discussion and mentorship session with students, hosted by the Photonics Society at UCSB.
Dr. Isinsu Baylam visited Osaka University, Japan, to deliver a plenary talk at the Student Conference on Light (SCOL). Her presentation, “Graphene Saturable Absorbers with Voltage-Reconfigurable Fermi Levels for the Generation of Femtosecond Laser Pulses,” was co-authored with N. Kakenov, M. N. Cizmeciyan, S. Ozharar, C. Kocabas, and A. Sennaroglu.
Dr. Isinsu Baylam visited the TU Wien Student Chapter in Vienna, Austria, as an OSA Traveling Lecturer. She led a discussion and mentorship session with students, focusing on career development, research pathways, and engagement in the optics and photonics community.
Dr. Isinsu Baylam participated as a mentor in the OSA Student Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C., USA. She led mentoring sessions with international student groups, providing guidance on research, career development, and professional engagement in optics and photonics.
Dr. Isinsu Baylam participated in the 69th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting in Physics in Lindau, Germany. She was nominated as a presenter and participant by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) and co-funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
Dr. Isinsu Baylam was interviewed (in Turkish) by Gelecek Bilimde (Future is Science), discussing her research in ultrafast solid-state lasers and her career journey in optics and photonics. The interview was published as a YouTube video on 27 October 2019.
