I'm new to Cakewalk, but not to creating music or using apps. My challenge is setting up virtual instruments in Cakewalk. I know it's not set up right, because Cakewalk tells me every time I open it (screen shot below), and I'm getting no sound at all. For the last couple of weeks, I've been following instructions on various videos, and I've read the cakewalk documentation and followed those directions, and nothing is working.

I've used FL Studio, Sibelius and Mulab, but I don't remember having to do the type of settings as in Cakewalk, and I don't understand how this works. How do I know what resources on my laptop are available to Cakewalk? What's a "driver model" (first screen shot below)? Apparently, Cakewalk isn't seeing any audio devices (screenshot below). Does it have to, since I'm using only virtual instruments?

Welcome to the forum.

If you're using a Focusrite 2i2, you should go to their website and download and install Focurite's ASIO driver for your operating system. While WASAPI may work, either 'shared' or 'exclusive', the ASIO driver from Focusrite is made specifically for your device and should work better than any computer sound card driver.

Ensure the 2i2 is plugged into the same USB port.

Check that the audio tracks are routed to a valid bus or main output. If set to S/PDIF and there is no S/PDIF device, you won't hear anything.

I've gotten great results with stretching for most things, and like Jon said, choosing the right algorithm is super important, and so is bouncing down the audio when the stretching is done, so you're not using the less CPU costly online algorithms that have less quality than the bounced offline ones.

I've been working with a couple of project files, not realising that I had them set to copy imported audio to the default folder. I really wanted them to leave the referenced files where they were originally. These original files are still there, so I want to point the clips to these files and then delete the duplicated files. Since I've made some edits to the tracks already, I don't just want to delete the clips and drag the originals back in.

I will caution you on this though, as now that per project folders are the new default, storing these projects and opening them in years from now will be a complete mess. Always at all cost, try to store all audio files with the project in the working folder with the CWP/audio files. This way in 5 years from now, you wont be getting "missing audio files" when trying to load your project.

@chuckebaby Basically when I created this project, I didn't notice that it was by default importing audio files, hence I dragged them in and assumed they were being referenced from their original location. I did quite a few edits before I realised this had happened.

The main reason for wanting to do this is that I recorded a complete live gig, and I want just one copy of the source files, with individual project files for each song. I don't want to duplicate all the audio each time I work on a song, and I'd rather not cut up all the source files either. With sensible file naming it would be a simple matter to reconstruct things if the audio and project files ever got separated, since each song will be using the same source audio files.

It is possible when importing a clip to tell CbB to use the original clip instead of copying the clip into the project audio folder. To do this, deselect "Copy audio to project folder" in the import audio dialog. There are other conditions that cause audio to be copied into the project audio folder, for details review the help section on importing audio.

Also when not using per-project audio folders or the global audio folder for projects that are not setup for per-project audio, keep in mind the projects store these clips using fully qualified file names. IOW, to find a clip it must always be in the same location.

It is possible for multiple projects to use a single per-project audio folder. This has the advantage of keeping all the clips for related projects in a single folder and still allow the projects to use relative paths to the clips. On disk the layout looks like this

I made a video showing How to get ANY DAW audio in OBS Videolink below... I go over how to setup reastream to get the DAW audio out.. Hope this helps if you want to start making videos of your DAW... ?

If you have an audio interface with a loopback feature, you simply add the Loopback to as your Desktop audio input in OBS - This brings your DAW or any app that is playing sound into OBS. The beauty of this feature is you don't need to mess with your ASIO driver set up. I found it a huge PITA to change to WASAPI shared just to make a video. I'd often forget I'd done this which causes problems when just using Cakewalk. Now I never have to change drivers or devices or anything. And I can fire up OBS in 2 seconds and start recording.

No I don't, Loopback is a feature added to most newer interfaces. Your Tascam is the newer upgrade to my us1641 and is a very good interface, but it doesn't have loop back. If your interface does have Loopback then it is availlable to any software like OBS as an option for recording audio input. It basically takes to main output of the interface and makes it available as an input. My Motu M4 has this and you have the option of Loopback or Loopback Mix.

I used a Scarlett 6i6 and the 3/4 outputs ran to a stereo channel of a Mackie Mix 8. Plug my mike into the mixer in Channel 1. The Mix 8 outputs ran to inputs 1/2 of the interface. You could use 3/4 if OBS will recognize them. It seems to see 3/4 of my Motu but it didn't for my Scarlett. So all you do is use the mixer to blend the DAW playback with anything else like your mike or even a camers audio output.

Yes i have this problem with OBS it will record my mic in OBS and video or MP3 etc i play from desktop but will not record Cakewalk output thats going to my desktop audio interface. My interface as SPIDF and 12 outputs but no loop back lol

For me, if Cakewalk is on, then no audio will play from other windows, like a youtube video for example. I can't watch a tutorial with Cakewalk in the background. Cakewalk itself can playback sound just fine, but every other application is muted. Fix?

The brand was acquired in 2013 by Gibson, and in 2017 Gibson announced it was ceasing Cakewalk development. In 2018, Singapore-based BandLab Technologies purchased some of Cakewalk, Inc.'s assets, and continued SONAR development as part of its portfolio of freeware digital audio workstation software.

Early Cakewalk for DOS versions (up to 3.0) required the intelligent mode of the MPU-401, and so could not be used with product clones of the MPU-401, while later Cakewalk versions (since 4.0) relied on the "dumb" UART mode only. With the addition of more features, the company renamed the sequencer Cakewalk Pro, and then Cakewalk Pro Audio when it gained support for digitized audio.

The SONAR digital audio workstation provided users the ability to create projects in which they could edit digital audio tracks, MIDI tracks, and associated information like lyrics and music notation. SONAR's visual displays included audio waveforms, musical scores, editing consoles, and event lists. The user could mix MIDI output and audio tracks down to a stereo .WAV file and burn it to a CD or publish it in other media formats.

The company's products included sequencers; digital audio workstations, including the current Cakewalk by Bandlab, and former products Dimension Pro and Rapture Pro (Multisample synth);[6][7] and instruments, effects tools and miscellaneous consumer products for creating music.

I'm having trouble getting Cakewalk to output audio to my computer's 3.5mm jack. My goal is to mimic what I was able to do with GarageBand on OSX; connect my guitar through a USB interface, play with GarageBand's amp emulator, listen through my 3.5mm headphones directly from the computer.

I am able to hear output audio from the Scarlett Solo 6.5mm jack, but for convenience it would be nice to use my computer audio. I'm just learning and trying to get the most simple practice setup I can on Windows.

Have you managed to fix this as I have the same problem? It makes no difference if "Suspend Audio Engine ..." is checked or unchecked, I cannot get sound in any other application or website unless I shut Cakewalk down. My Driver Mode is set to ASIO and the Sampling Rate is 44100 which is the same as my audio interface (Focusrite Saffire Pro 14).

Like many other things, there are probably different entry points and different people prefer different methods. Not as an expert, but as a basic audio user, I usually use the taskbar speaker icon to run the Troubleshooter. Often when I am trouble shooting an issue with Windows audio, even if the troubleshooter detects no problem, simply running the troubleshooter seems to launch some check/reset audio services that might fix an issue.

Thanks 905133. The troubleshooter didn't pick anything up but I noticed that I had three audio devices, two of which I don't use, so I disabled these and looked at the one I do use. This had a different sample rate to the one in Cakewalk so I made them the same and it all works ok.

I am a legacy Sonar Platinum user. Recently in cleaning up/organizing files on my hard drive, I must have moved the Cakewalk/Sonar audio files. Now when I call up an existing song project, midi files populate the screen, but there are no audio files, vocal, guitar etc. Any suggestions? As far as I know, I did not delete the files. The files never showed up in the recycle bin, that I can find. I cannot find the files any where. Under Cakewalk Projects/Audio, the folders are empty. Anybody have any idea? ff782bc1db
