FAQ

Where is Google? Where is the GTI?

Google has several locations throughout the Bay Area, but the main site is in Mountain View, CA. This 35 miles SE of San Francisco and 15 mile NW of San Jose. We will be on the Google West Campus, in Building GWC2.

Can you share a list of participant names and email?

Data privacy rules prevent us from sharing this information directly. All invited attendees will be added to the closed GTI G+ community, and can connect via that forum. Note: Some attendees email address that have not activated G+, if you have a different address you want used to add you to the community please contact the organizers.

Does Google provide accommodation or travel support?

Attendees are responsible for all of their own travel costs, including the need for any overnight accommodation. We have provided a list of suggested nearby hotels but there are many other options. In the past attendees have self organized to share rooms or even played host out of town guests (if they themselves live locally). Please feel free to use the G+ community to put these messages out (although try to take the conversation private once a connection is made).

What airport should I use? How do I get to the Google Campus?

San Jose (SJC) is the closest airport. San Francisco (SFO) offers the most flight options. Oakland (OAK) is also possible but not recommended due to its distance from Mountain View. We have added airport and regional transportation information to the travel & directions page.

Can I bring my partner / children / friend / pet hamster?

Space is very limited at the event, and we are on an "active" work campus. Therefore we cannot accept any walk-in, drop-in, or unconfirmed participants. This includes spouse, partners or dependents who want to just "see the Google campus". It may be possible to accommodate hamsters with enough warning.* Personally I plan on bringing my Quokka.

*this is not true. And there will be no quokkas present either.

What devices should I bring?

This is a bring your own laptop/chromebook event, and it is highly recommended you bring a smartphone. Most but not all things will work on tablets (note: Google Earth is not yet available on iOS).

Presenters will have smartphones available for use during breakout sessions (e.g. devices set up to show Google Expeditions), and if you are unable to bring your own laptop and we can arrange for use of loaner laptop* (*supplies are limited so please contact the organizers if you think you need this).

Power will be available in the main and breakout rooms. The "Google Guest" wifi is open for all visitors to campus.

Is there Parking available at Google?

Yes. Please see the Travel & Directions page (scroll down).
