I have had the honor of participating in YAG for the last 4 years; first as a page, then a delegate, then a candidate for Youth Governor, and now as a candidate for Presiding Officer and Committee Chairperson, as well as serving on the Program Planning Committee, being Oregon’s Youth Advocate, and leading the West Salem Delegation as co-president. My intention is always to be the person anyone feels comfortable asking a question of. For me, this translates to a commitment to foster an environment that is safe, inclusive, welcoming, understanding, and kind. I have been lucky enough to already experience that tenfold as a member of YAG, and I am passionate about continuing it. I also greatly appreciate the procedural and policy aspects of YAG, in fact I am planning on pursuing a degree in political science because of how much I love it. Therefore, holding a position of leadership allows for the opportunity to share my knowledge of parliamentary procedure and policy, and watch as you all take the passions you bring to the table and run with them. My heart has always been with youth and their governmental and advocacy work, and I am beyond grateful for everything this program has given me, including the chance to run for these positions. I truly believe that Speaker of the House is the definition of the values that I have described, which is why I am so excited and honored to be holding this position this year beside my good friend, Caleb.
In Oregon's Youth Legislature, we elect both the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House in the same election. So as a participant in the conference, you will have the opportunity to vote for 2 people that you wish to be your PO's! You can read more about the qualifications and responsibilities of Presiding Officers here.
