Rwanda in-service teacher training programme is designed to empower Rwandan schoolteachers to use ICT as an educational tool to enhance their teaching and learning. To bring substantial change in the classroom, CADIE project selected a set of competencies from UNESCO ICT CFT version 3. Among competencies selected were from Advanced ICT Essentials for Teachers Course and the ICT Essentials for Teachers Course which were previously developed by REB in collaboration with UNESCO, CADIE project decided to focus on ICT tools for more hands-on practices so that teachers can apply ICT tools in the teaching and learning process. Rwanda in-service teacher training programme outlines how each of the 13 modules of study have at their core an ICT CFT competency and suggests some Open Education Resources (OERs) that can be adapted and contextualized to work within the Rwandan context.
This programme is an example of blended learning as it includes an online session, face to face session. The module consists of three steps (Orientation, Face to Face, online assignment submission,) The module has focused on empowering teacher’s teaching capacity with ICT tools in the classroom setting and as well as enhancing Rwandan schoolteachers’ classroom teaching capability and integrating ICT tools in the CBC lesson plan. Each module consists of sessions related closely to teaching and learning with ICT. The modules are designed in such a way that are flexible and can be interchanged with other sessions accordingly. This program consists of 12 modules. Each module has different hours in order for an effective learning outcome. All course modules are designed to bring hands-on experience for teachers so that they can instantly apply ICT tools into their teaching. Participants should submit their outcomes based on the form CADIE provides. It includes the result of implementing a lesson plan using ICT. The CADIE project selected a set of competencies clustered around 3 major educational core concentrations of the UNESCO ICT Competency Framework Teachers. The three major educational core areas will be covered in both face to face and online. Rwanda in-service teacher training programme focuses on competencies to integrate the appropriate ICT tools in a classroom setting and bring new experiences to Rwandan schools.
