About Manizales

Manizales is the capital of the Caldas department and, along with Armenia and Pereira, forms what is known as Colombia’s Coffee Triangle. It’s a region of fascinating biological diversity, stunning views and, of course, incredible coffee. This beautiful mountain city has a population of just over 450,000 people.

Manizales itself is one of the most spectacularly located cities in Colombia. Owing to its location in the Andes, the city is dwarfed by the snow-capped mountains that loom spectacularly over the horizon. This location also affords Manizales a variable climate and great biodiversity. The fresh mountain breeze and almost daily rainfall keeps the air clean and minimizes pollution.

Manizales is a university city and, thanks to this, its cultural scene is thriving. Theatre, ballet, and music concerts are all commonplace events throughout the year. The strong student population also means the city boasts a great, relaxed nightlife.

HOW TO ARRIVE

By Plane: There is no way to fly directly into Manizales if you’re coming from an international destination. The city is served by La Nubia Airport, which receives regular flights via  Easyfly from Bogotá, Cartagena and Medellín. Another way to get Manizales it is fly directly into Pereira (Matecaña Airport) The second option has a higher flight frequency and is preferred by tourists, since flights into Manizales are restricted as a result of environmental concerns.

By Road: The fastest way to get from Pereira (airport) to Manizales is to taxi. Taking this option will cost $20 - $30 and takes 47 minutes. Another way, it is take a taxi from Matecaña airport to bus station (terminal de transporte) and take a bus departing from Pereira and arriving at Manizales. Services depart hourly, and operate every day. The journey takes approximately 50 minutes.
