Our monsoon adventures have always felt incomplete without a exciting escapade to Vagamon Hills & Gavi Jungle combo. Step into a journey where foggy hills extend as far as the eye can see, and deep green forests seem to go on forever. As the journey takes you deeper, you’ll find nature gently taking over all around you.

Walking through the green slopes and pine-covered hills on a scenic trek, along with relaxing at a peaceful hillside retreat accessible only by a short off-road drive, truly defines the Vagamon experience.

Then travel to Gavi, set within the Periyar Tiger Reserve, where you’ll be surrounded by dense forests, serene lakes, and rich wildlife. With thoughtfully arranged experiences in the heart of nature, the destination offers a perfect balance of adventure and calm, letting you enjoy the thrill of the outdoors along with the comfort of peaceful indoor moments.

From peaceful landscapes to jungle experiences, this journey is all about nature, adventure, and simple comfort.

This trip is quite expensive since the accommodation cost at Gavi alone is ₹3,600 per person.

📋ITINERARY

⛰️ Day-0 (Friday, 26 June)

Travel Day: All Routes to Kottayam

📍 Coimbatore participants:

(Your journey begins the next day. Please refer to Day-1 itinerary for details.)

📍 Bangalore participants:

07:00 PM: Board TVCN HUMSAFAR (Train No. 16320) from Bangalore - SMVB Railway Station towards Kottayam.

📍 Chennai participants:

03:20 PM: Board MAS TVC SF EXP (Train No. 12695) from Chennai Central Railway Station towards Kottayam.

⛰️ Day-1 (Satuday, 27 June)

Departure & Arrival

01:05 AM (Midnight): Coimbatore participants, board TVCN Humsafar Express (Train No. 16320) from Coimbatore towards Kottayam.
03:50 AM: Chennai participants will arrive at Kottayam Railway Station.
06:30 AM: Coimbatore and Bangalore participants will arrive at Kottayam Railway Station.

Waterfall trek

All participants gather & proceed to Vagamon by road with breakfast en route.
Reach refresh point (a small homestay), freshen up and travel to the waterfall trek start point.
Begin the scenic trek to the waterfalls.
Enjoy and refresh at the falls, then hike back to the starting point.
Travel back to the stopover point and have lunch.
Post lunch, proceed to homestay via an off-road jeep ride.
Enjoy a peaceful evening followed by dinner.

Local transportation.
Jeep transfers for local and Off-road routes.
Meals: Lunch and Dinner.

ℹ️ Additional info:

Travel time: Train journey of ~6 hours from Coimbatore, ~11 hours from Bangalore, and ~12 hours from Chennai to reach Kottayam Railway Station. Road journey of ~2 hours to reach the homestay, located in a small village of Vagamon.
Jeep transport will be provided for round-trip transfers between the refresh point and the waterfalls trek start point.
Participants can leave their luggage at the refresh point and proceed for the waterfall trek. After returning, an off-road jeep ride will take participants to the homestay located at the hilltop.
The homestay is a hillside stay offering peaceful views of rolling meadows, pine forests, and mist-covered valleys. It is a rustic, nature-focused stay and not a resort-style accommodation.

⛰️Day-2 (Sunday, 28 June)

Sunrise Trek, Gavi Trails & Lake Boating

Start with an early morning sunrise trek.
Post trek, have breakfast and proceed to Gavi, with lunch en route.
Enjoy a guided walk around the accommodation area.
Experience a guided row boating at Gavi Lake.
Enjoy a peaceful evening followed by dinner.

ℹ️ Additional info:

Travel time: Road journey of ~2 hours to reach Gavi.
The accommodation is an eco-tourism property run by the Kerala Forest Development Corporation, located inside the Periyar Tiger Reserve. Participants can look forward to a memorable experience with possible wildlife sightings, authentic Kerala cuisine, and a cozy stay amidst nature.

⛰️ Day-3 (Monday, 29 June)

Nature Walk, Lavish Lunch & Departure

Early morning guided forest jeep safari through Periyar Tiger Reserve for wildlife spotting and nature observation.
Post breakfast, visit the Animal Skeleton Museum, offering insights into wildlife, ecology, and conservation of the Western Ghats.
Guided short trek through dense forests, streams and small waterfalls.
Visit a spice garden and witness the traditional cardamom curing and processing unit, learning about spice cultivation practices.
Post lunch, proceed to Kottayam Railway Station for your return journey to your respective destination.

📍 Coimbatore and Bangalore participants:

07:45 PM: Board TVCN YPR GR EXP (Train No. 12258) from Kottayam Railway Station towards their respective locations.

📍 Chennai participants:

08:05 PM: Board TVC MAS SF EXP (Train No. 12696) from Kottayam Railway Station.

Local transportations.
Meals: Breakfast and Lunch.
Forest jeep safari.
Entry to Animal Skeleton Museum.

Meals: Dinner.

ℹ️ Additional info:

Travel time: Road Journey of ~2 hours to reach the Kottayam railway station and train journey of ~7 hours to Coimbatore, ~13 hours to Bangalore, and ~13 hours to Chennai.
The guided trek inside the Gavi forest has multiple route options. The route will be decided and announced by the Forest DFO on the previous day, based on prevailing conditions.

⛰️ Day-4 (Tuesday, 30 June)

Arrive at Coimbatore Junction railway station by 1:30 AM.
Arrive at Yasvantpur (Bangalore) Junction railway station by 09:45 AM.
Arrive at Chennai Central railway station by 10:00 AM.

Participants joining from:

Coimbatore - ₹13,300
Bangalore - ₹14,350

Inclusions:

✔️ Accommodation,

Day 1 - Mann Veedu homestay including 3 meals (₹2,600).
Day 2 - Gavi forest accommodation including 3 meals (₹3,600).

✔️ Train transport,

For participants joining from Coimbatore, 3AC Sleeper ticket for both onwards and return is ₹1,450.
For participants joining from Bangalore, 3AC Sleeper ticket for both onwards and return is ₹2,500.
For participants joining from Chennai, 3AC Sleeper ticket for both onwards and return is ₹2,950.

✔️ Local transport by Van in Kerala for 3 days (₹2600) and jeep transport for off-road routes (₹500).

✔️ Forest entry Fees (included in the accommodation cost).

✔️ Boating, Forest safari and entry to Animal Skeleton Museum in Gavi (included in the accommodation cost).

✔️ Waterfalls trek in Vagamon and Trek in Gavi forest premises (included in the accommodation cost).

✔️ Local guide fee (₹250).

✔️ CAC trip leader's expenses (₹1100).

✔️ CAC operational fee, ₹400 per day (₹1,200).

Exclusions:

❌ Transport - For participants joining in Kottayam, bus/train/flight ticket bookings for onwards and return journey are to be taken care by themselves.

❌ Meals which are not mentioned under inclusions in day wise itinerary.

❌ Cost incidental to any change in the itinerary/stay, ill health, roadblocks, landslides, floods and/or any factors beyond control.

IMPORTANT NOTE

Any drastic increase in fuel prices due to war / economic instability may increase the transport cost. The additional transport expenses arising due to such instances will be collected as surcharge from the participants. This is applicable only if Diesel prices go above ₹100.
We do not foresee any train price hikes.

📝GENERAL INFO

➡️ Basics:

Total number of slots: 13.
Age group: 18 to 40.
Gender ratio: To encourage female travellers, we will ensure that there is a min of 40% female participants.
Gavi trek is conducted with official permission from the Forest Department, and a local guide will accompany us throughout.
Strictly no alcohol or smoking at any time during the trip.
First preference for solo participants and couples are welcome to register. The total number of couples in the trip will be limited to one.
Generally, we don't allow group participation in any of our trips. However, you are permitted to bring along one of your friends or a family member with you.
Group registrations of more than 3 persons will most likely get rejected.
Mobile Connectivity: No network or very little mobile network in both the accommodations.
Weather: Temperatures between 15°C - 25°C in Vagamon and in Gavi. Also we can expect the temperature drop up to 10°C during night.

➡️ Accommodation:

Stay in Vagamon will be at a homestay, with cottage rooms for women and dormitory for men. Separate double occupancy tents for couples with common washrooms can be arranged at no extra cost.
Stay in Gavi will be in log house–style rooms with 4 or 6 sharing. Separate double rooms can be arranged at an additional cost of ₹1,500 per person, which is subject to availability.
Please select your preference for double rooms during registration. Confirmation of double occupancy will be informed 1 week before the trip.
Permanent washroom facility will be available at both the accommodations and no tented restrooms.
Hot water facility will be available at the accommodations, however expect power failures in forest regions during monsoons, that can interrupt hot water access.
Please note that customized food options will not be available. However, you’ll get to experience authentic local cuisine, so we encourage you to enjoy the local flavors of Kerala during the trip.

➡️ Transport:

All train tickets will be booked by CAC for participants joining from Coimbatore/Bangalore/Chennai. If participants chose to join from Kottayam then their arrival and departure tickets are to be booked by themselves.
Local transportation will be by non-AC Van and off road routes by jeep.
Participants joining and departing from Kottayam or Coimbatore on their own are requested to arrange their travel accordingly and keep at least a 2-hour buffer to avoid any unforeseen delays.

➡️ Things to carry:

Mandatory - Any Govt. issued ID card (preferably Aadhar),
Trekking Shoes and slippers,
Rain Jacket (mandatory, unless you want to enjoy the monsoons),
Umbrella (helpful when you walk around the stay),
Cap and sunscreen to protect yourself from sun,
Any energy snack and reusable water bottle,
Mosquito repellent,
Sanitizer spray (will help to remove leeches easily),
Toiletries.
Note: A detailed things to carry list will be shared 2 weeks before the trip

➡️ Trek details:

Trek Difficulty: Moderate for first timers and easy for regular trekkers at both Vagamon waterfall trek and Gavi viewpoint trek.
Note: Vagamon and Gavi regions, receives heavy rainfall during the monsoon season, and the government may occasionally impose restrictions on certain activities. Such situations are beyond our control. In such cases, we may either reschedule the trip or continue as planned and arrange alternative activities.

➡️ Selection criteria:

Selection for the trip will be at the complete discretion of Coimbatore Adventure Club. Please send us the payment only if you get a confirmation from us. We will be keeping 50:50 ratio for repeating participants and new participants. Here are some of our criteria:

New participants:
- Solo participants will get first preference.
- Or if you have a referral from our previous participants.
- Or if you have registered for some other trip with us and didn't get a slot.
Repeating participants:
- Preference will be given if you have engaged us in your social media posts/stories.
- Or if you have referred us to someone.

➡️ Registration & Selection Process:

Registration: If you are interested in joining this trip, please complete your registration by clicking the link provided at the end of this itinerary.
Invitation and Selection Process: Once registered, shortlisted participants will receive an official invitation to join the trip along with details for making the advance payment.

Advance Payment: Shortlisted participants will receive advance payment instructions. Your slot for the trip will be confirmed only upon successful payment of the advance.

➡️ To Keep in Mind:

Registering for the trip via the provided link does not guarantee a slot. Confirmation is subject to the selection process and availability of slots.
The selection process is solely at the discretion of the Coimbatore Adventure Club. If all slots are filled, we will notify you and place you on a waitlist.

➡️ Payment process:

Confirm your spot with an initial payment of ₹8,600 and it is non-refundable and non-transferable.
Option to pay advance amount through credit cards / wallets are also possible. Do request us at the time of payment.
Balance payment to be settled 30 days before the trip. Otherwise the balance payment has to be brought as cash during the trip.
Payment details will be shared if you are shortlisted for the trip.

➡️ Cancellation Policy:

1) Cancellation by participant:

Advance paid during trip confirmation is strictly non-refundable at any circumstances, as we group book the trains/vans, and accommodation. Also note that the advance payment will strictly be not transferrable to someone else or to a future trip, in case you are not joining the trip. In case a participant cancels at the last moment (within 48 hours of trip starting time), they will be requested to settle at least 75% of the total trip cost.

2) Cancellation due to unforeseen situations beyond our control:

In the event of trip cancellations due to natural calamities or unforeseen circumstances (e.g., extreme weather, flood, political unrest, or government-imposed restrictions)—essentially, any situation beyond CAC’s control—train/bus cancellation charges of ₹1,000 - ₹1,500 (price varies based on your booked location) will be non-refundable. The remaining amount can be fully transferred to rescheduled dates or applied to any other trip of your choice.

Important Notice:

Coimbatore Adventure Club reserves the right to remove any participant from the trip at any time if they engage in any illicit or inappropriate behavior. This policy is in place to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all travelers. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
In case of misbehavior, the concerned participant can be sent home without any refund.
Please note that there could be small changes in the itinerary due to weather, local restrictions or any unforeseen circumstances. Suitable alternative plans will be made in such cases.
