What is Coimbatore Adventure Club upto?

· Over the last 12 years, we’ve spent enough time deep inside India’s wilderness to know this for a fact — India has some of the finest, toughest, and most rewarding treks anywhere in the world.

· But we are curious to discover more. To keep things interesting at CAC, and to avoid repeating the same kind of trips again and again, we decided to take our trekking experiences a step further.

· With this trip, CAC is going to trek outside Indian borders for the first time. We’re heading into the rainforests of Borneo Island, to a place called Gunung Mulu National Park, across the sea from Mainland Malaysia. This place is known for its raw jungles and a challenging trek called the Mulu Pinnacles.

Where is this destination?

· This is not a Malaysian destination you usually see on Instagram or travel reels.

· Reaching Mulu itself is an experience – we will be taking take two internal flights from Kuala Lumpur, and fly across the South China sea. Mulu is located in Sarawak, a state in Malaysia, on Borneo Island. The only way to reach Mulu is by flying. There are no direct roads to reach this destination.

· The complete Borneo Island is separated from mainland Malaysia by the South China Sea. It is shared by three countries — Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei — and it is the third largest island in the world.

· We have created a visual explanation above to help you understand the location.

Why did we choose Mulu?

While researching, we realised Malaysia has a very wild and adventurous side that most people don’t know about. That surprised us, and it excited us.
Borneo is still an under-visited island. It hasn’t fully entered the tourist or social media space yet. We want to experience it while it’s still raw and quiet.
This trek is strictly regulated by the government, making it very safe. It requires permits, approvals, and allows only small groups.
At least once, we want our travellers to experience nature outside India in its raw form — not city stays or relaxed international trips, but real wilderness. No roads. limited facilities. No phone signal. Nights filled with forest sounds. A real disconnect that’s becoming rare.
This trip demands respect. It’s not for casual travellers.. It’s not for ticking countries off a list or recreating someone else’s reel. This is for those who want to create experiences worth remembering — and worth others learning from.

What to expect from this trip?

We fly into the rainforest on a small aircraft. For many of us, this is something we’ve always wanted to experience at least once.
Stay inside one of the world’s oldest rainforests (UNESCO-listed) in Mulu National Park for 5 days, with plenty of adventurous things in plan.
Inside the park we will be doing a multi-day trek with overnight stay at a jungle camp. Facilities are very basic, and there is no network — a rare kind of disconnect today.
We’ll be carrying our own groceries to this jungle camp called as the camp-5, and once night falls, the entire group comes together to cook dinner. Simple food, shared effort, and a setting where moments like these feel unexpectedly special.
The trek to Pinnacles peak is optional. Those who want to take up the challenge can attempt it. Others will do a easier trek instead, which is through caves, deep jungles etc.
Inside Mulu National Park, we will also be doing cave walks, jungle hikes, hanging bridges, canopy walks, and long forest trails. Yes, you will not be crawling inside caves, these are walkable cave trails. Comfortable, yet dramatic
If you are thinking flying into this jungle and caves treks are the only exciting things, no. Sometimes during our treks, at some point, we switch from trekking to a boat journey through rainforest rivers, passing small settlements, and then continue the trek on foot.
We will also experience other cities like Miri, as this is the gateway to Mulu. We will be spending 1 night at this coastal town.
We will also spend one day in Kuala Lumpur, because it's understandable that it's good to visit the Petronas Towers, do some shopping after an exotic jungle living.

🧗 Itinerary

🇲🇾 Day-1 (12 Apr, Sun)

Arrive at Miri in Sarawak, Borneo

On the coastal side of Borneo Island lies Miri, a quiet town far away from the usual bustle of Kuala Lumpur.
We will all as a group take flight together from Chennai (or Bangalore), fly via Kuala Lumpur and land together at Miri Airport (MYY) in Sarawak Malaysia.
Our first day evening will be spent wandering through the lively Saberkas Night Market, known for its local produce, handicrafts, and street flavors.
We will also visit a local beach if our flights land on time before sunset. Maybe a bit of nightlife too, before we set to explore the whats unknown the next day.

🇲🇾 Day-2 (13 Apr, Mon)

Gateway to the Wild: Mulu National Park

Mulu is one of the world’s great biodiversity hotspots, home to nearly half of Borneo’s known plant, animal, and fungi species.
The Mulu World Heritage area is modest and self-contained, with a small airport, one hotel, and a quiet village that has a clinic and a primary school. Since facilities are limited, it’s important to carry all essentials before flying into Mulu.
Though Miri and Mulu appear close on the map, there is no road connecting them because of the dense rainforest. Reaching Mulu is possible by trekking, boat, or a short flight. We’ll take the most convenient option—a 30-minute flight from Mulu.
We’ll board a late-morning flight from Miri to Mulu, and from the airport, continue by road to the national park. If you are thinking how cars are taken to this jungle? Yes they have taken cars inside Mulu through rivers loading them on specialised flat bottomed boats.
Once we reach Mulu, we’ll check in to our jungle stay located within the reserve, surrounded by the forest’s quiet rhythm.
For the rest of the day, we'll explore and get accustomed to the facilities available in the national park. We will also need to purchase rations for the trek for the following days.

🇲🇾 Day-3 (14 Apr, Tue)

Into the Heart of the Jungle: Journey to Camp 5

After breakfast, we begin one of the world’s most demanding jungle journeys—the Pinnacles trek. Due to its high risk and extreme nature, Mulu National Park permits this climb only as a 3-day, 2-night expedition.
We start with a 1–2 hour boat ride along the Melinau River to reach Kuala Litut. Midway, we’ll stop to visit the Clearwater Caves, one of the largest cave systems in the world, stretching over 220 km in length.
From Kuala Litut, we begin a 9 km trek through dense rainforest, which leads us to Camp 5, our shelter for the night.
Camp 5 is raw and simple—a raised wooden platform with a roof and sleeping beds, but no walls, doors, or insect screens (these can be purchased at the park office).
A shared kitchen space is available, where everyone comes together to cook, share stories, and let the forest set the rhythm for the night.

🇲🇾 Day-4 (15 Apr, Wed)

This day we will separate into two groups from Camp-5:

Group-1: Will do the easy trek - Karangas Forest Walk

Group-2: Will do the Pinnacle Trek

Group-1:

From Camp-5, we will take the Karangas Forest Walk, a 2-hour trail through sandy-soil forests—the ideal habitat for pitcher plants. After the trek, return to our cottage accommodation in Mulu National Park Head Quarters.

Group-2:

From Camp-5, we will start the ascent early, stepping into one of the most demanding sections of the journey.
The first hour covers just 900 meters, but the climb is steep—from 50 meters above sea level to 400. This sharp rise brings us to the Mini Pinnacles.
The next 30 minutes are even more intense. In just 300 meters, we climb further up to 600 meters above sea level, marking the halfway point to the summit.
The third stretch moves through dense rainforest. Here, you may spot the carnivorous pitcher plant, native to Borneo. Over the next hour, we trek 800 meters and gain height up to 1,000 meters above sea level.
The final leg is the most challenging—near-vertical metal ladders leading to the Pinnacles viewpoint. A series of 17 ladders over 400 meters will push you to your absolute limits.
After spending a short but rewarding moment at the summit, we descend the same route back to Camp 5, where rest will feel well earned.

Important Notes:

Preference to opt for Group-1 or Group-2 will be guided by CAC team, during the registration process and before the trip.
Cost for Group-1 and Group-2 will be the same.
For those who have opted for Group-2, While reaching Camp-5 on Day-3, the expert guide from Mulu National Park will decide if you can do the Pinnacles trek the next day. If he says you cannot do, you will be requested to join with Group-1 to do basic treks from Camp-5.

🇲🇾 Day-5 (16 Apr, Thu)

Return Through the Rainforest

Group-1:

Begin the Lagang Cave Tour, an intermediate-level caving activity. Explore a beautiful cave adorned with stalactites, stalagmites, and remarkable examples of cave sediments. Experience the thrill of discovering this underground world by torchlight, with the anticipation of what lies around the next dark corner.

Group-2

After a well rested night at Camp 5, we begin our descent through the rainforest, retracing our steps back to Kuala Litut.
A calm boat ride along the Melinau River marks the end of this intense jungle expedition.
By evening, we return to our cottage accommodation at Mulu Park head quarters—tired, fulfilled, and carrying the quiet pride of having conquered one of Mulu’s toughest trails.

Both Group-1 and Group-2 will return to Mulu base camp on this night, and will be together from here on.

🇲🇾 Day-6 (17 Apr, Fri)

Mysteries of Mulu: Deer & Lang Caves and the Spectacular Bat Exodus

Both Group-1 and Group-2 will be together from this day and do all further activities together :

We'll have a relaxing morning on this day. Post-lunch, we begin with an easy 3 km walk on raised plank paths through the rainforest, reaching the Bat Observatory.
As we proceed further, we enter Deer Cave, home to one of the world’s largest cave passages and millions of Wrinkle-lipped bats. The sheer scale of the cave, its ancient riverbed, and sculpted limestone walls are awe-inspiring.
Walking about 800 meters inside, we reach the lush Garden of Eden, where waterfalls known as Adam and Eve’s Showers cascade dramatically into the valley below.
On the return, we visit Lang Cave, smaller but richly decorated with limestone shawls, stalactites, stalagmites, and shimmering threadworm larvae webs—tiny details that make the cave magical.
As evening approaches, we walk back to the Bat Observatory to witness the iconic Bat Exodus. Around sunset, millions of bats spiral out of Deer Cave in dark ribbons across the sky, an unforgettable natural spectacle that marks the perfect end to the day.

🇲🇾 Day-7 (18 Apr, Sat)

Return from the Underground Realm

Our adventure in Mulu ends today. After breakfast, we'll check-out and proceed to Mulu Airport to catch our flights back to Miri.
On reaching Miri, we will have a short layover and take our evening flight to the buzzling Kuala Lumpur.
Upon landing, we'll travel to the hotel for the night stay.
Hangout at the Petronas Tower area, known as KLCC, at the night. And some KL nightlife for those interested.

🇲🇾 DAY-8 (19 Apr, Sun)

A day in Kuala Lumpur

We will explore the city on a bus hop-on hop-off tour, visiting the famous spots like the KL towers, China town etc.
The bus takes us to 27 iconic in the city and at each point, we can deboard, visit the places at our own pace and take the next bus to reach the next destination. All the shopping to your hearts content can be done during this day.
By evening we'll return back to the airport and catch our flight to India.

Package without a day in Kuala Lumpur - ₹65,000/-
Package including a day in Kuala Lumpur - ₹77,000/-

Inclusions:

- Miri to Mulu round trip flights included along with a checked-in baggage of 20kgs.
- Airport pickups and drop-offs (there could be small cost, approx. ₹2000, added if you don't travel along with the group, and if we have to arrange a separate airport pickup for you).

Exclusions:

- International flight tickets (India > Miri > India) (its ₹24,000 round trip from Chennai, as of 23-Jan-2026). We have launched this trip very early to take advantage of this low flight tickets. Flight rates can go up to ₹40,000, if booked within few weeks before the trip.
- Tourist Visa charges (it's currently free for Indians, as of January 2026)
- Travel Insurance
- Meals which are not mentioned in the itinerary are excluded. (You will need approx. ₹1,500 per day for basic local food).
- Any personal transport expenses for places not mentioned in itinerary.
- Cost incidental to any change in the itinerary/stay on account of flight cancellation due to bad weather, ill health, roadblocks, landslides, floods and/or any factors beyond control. If flights get cancelled due to weather, we will arrange alternative stay at minimal cost.

Important Note: There will NOT be any change in trip cost if you opt out of any activity at Mulu, because all activities at the National park are prebooked and costs are calculated based on group participation.

⛺ General Info:

Basics:

- Total number of slots: 12
- Age group: 18 to 45
- A valid Indian Passport with at-least 6 months validity from your date of travel is required.
- Gender ratio: We will ensure that there is a min of 40% female participants.
- First preference for solo participants. We will accept only one couple for the entire group. However, there will be an additional sur-charge for couples requesting for a Double bedroom. But this is not possible at the night we will stay at the camp-5.
- Group registrations of more than 3 persons will most likely get rejected.
- Please note that there could be small changes in the itinerary due to local restrictions, and suitable alternative plans will made in such cases.
- All activities are subject to weather and local rules.
- We will assist you to get your currency exchanged before your travel.

Flights:

- We will try to travel together from India, from Chennai and Bangalore airports. At the time of confirmation, we will let you know which flights needs to be booked, so that the entire team travels together. We can help you if you really need any flight booking assistance.
- We prefer that you book international flight tickets by yourself to take advantage of best possible rates and bank offers. We will be sharing a detailed guide for booking the flight yourself. Kindly book flights only after you receive the flight booking detailed info document from CAC. Please note, we will be having a on-call discussion before bookings flights, so that we can guide you in this.
- For those who are unsure about flight booking, leave it to us, we can help if required.
- Please note the following landing and departure airports:
  - Without Kuala Lumpur visit - Land & Depart from Miri Airport (MYY)
  - With Kuala Lumpur visit - Land in Miri Airport (MYY) and Depart from Kuala Lumpur (KUL)

Accommodations:

- All accommodations are 4 sharing rooms, separate for boys & girls.
- Rustic dorm style accommodation during the overnight camping expeditions.
- Couples can request for double sharing and can be provided at an extra cost.

Food:

- Food options inside Mulu National Park are very limited, but vegetarian choices will be available. The meals are mainly Malaysian cuisine with a few Pan-Asian varieties.
- There are no other restaurants inside the national park, so we expect everyone joining us to be open to trying the local food.
- For your stay at Camp 5, we will be purchasing ready-to-eat food items or groceries from the park headquarters. Cooking utensils and a gas stove will be provided for use. Lets cook together, its going to be fun.

Be a responsible traveler:

- Remember we are visiting another country, and it is important to respect local traditions and culture. Be kind to everyone.

Baggage Restrictions:

- For the local flight between Miri and Mulu, you are allowed to carry checked-in baggage weighing up to 20kgs. Backpacks/Rucksack preferable than trolleys. You may carry one additional small handbag (cabin-bag) weighing strictly max 7kgs.
- Please let us know if you have any concerns on the baggage rules.

Payment details:

Confirm your spot with an initial payment of ₹20,000 and it is non-refundable and non-transferable.
Option to pay advance amount through credit cards / wallets are also possible. Do request us at the time of payment.
Balance payment to be settled during the trip in Malaysian Ringgits (MYR / RM).
Payment details will be shared if you are shortlisted for the trip.
We do have EMI option, but there will be processing fee and interest.

- Invitation and Selection Process: Once you register, shortlisted participants will receive an official invitation to join the trip along with details for making the advance payment. Please note that the selection process is solely at the discretion of Coimbatore Adventure Club. If all slots are filled, we will notify you and place you on a waitlist.
- Advance Payment: Shortlisted participants will receive advance payment instructions. Your slot for the trip will be confirmed only upon successful payment of the advance.
- Flight Tickets: After your advance payment is processed and confirmed by us, you may proceed to book your flight tickets.

Cancellation Policy:

Cancellation by participant:

- Advance paid during trip confirmation is strictly non-refundable at any circumstances, as we group book the transports, accommodations and activities. Also note that the advance payment will strictly be not transferrable to someone else or to a future trip, in case you are not joining the trip.
- Cancellations made within 15 days of the trip require participants to cover 75% of the total trip cost, since most bookings are confirmed and non-refundable by this stage. You will be required to settle the applicable amount. Please note that non-compliance may affect your eligibility for future trips with CAC.
- Exception: A refund of the advance will be provided only in the case of a visa rejection by the Vietnam Embassy.

Cancellation due to unforeseen situations beyond our control:

In the event of trip cancellations due to natural calamities or unforeseen circumstances (e.g., extreme weather, political unrest, or government-imposed restrictions)—essentially, any situation beyond CAC’s control—cancellation charges up to ₹2,000 will be non-refundable. The remaining amount can be fully transferred to rescheduled dates or applied to any other trip of your choice.

- Coimbatore Adventure Club reserves the right to remove any participant from the trip at any time if they engage in any illicit or inappropriate behavior. This policy is in place to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all travelers. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
