Stock Work Training

These are stock dogs, not show dogs, so they have functional command standards for a working dog. I see a lot of programs that can teach a dog a lot of things, but impulse control is the one thing that I feel like most owners miss out on. This is the piece that will help your dog be safe and your commands reliable. I believe that these are basics that every pet or working dog should be able to do. Always remember, communication is key!

My goal is for both of these dogs to hold and create calm pressure so the cows don’t push on me when I come through the gate with hay. With pairs especially, I don’t want them biting unnecessarily, but also not getting run over. This also helps keep all the cows in and me not getting run over coming in the gate.

Stone's run at a trial in Alabama. My dogs do chores around the farm and also compete in timed cattle trails. We work sheep, goats, and cattle. In addition to working on the farm and trials, my dogs also help when we are called on to pen loose stock for other farmers or dog break cattle for small operations in the Upstate.
