GUIDELINES

Photography and Visual Art

Photographers and artists can submit up to 10 pieces.

Submitted pieces must have been taken/made in Japan.*

Image Requirements**

*In some cases pieces taken/made outside Japan may be accepted if the piece both ties into the contributors motif and relates back to Japan. If any of your pieces were taken/made outside of Japan, please include a short explanation as to how it relates to Japan (and your message/motif) in the comments section of your submission.

**Although we strive to avoid altering submissions, circumstances may arise where we have to crop images due to design restrictions that don’t fit within the overall issue layout. We have made our layout more flexible to avoid such edits and will seek approval of any cropping from the artist before putting them in the issue.

Creative Writing

Writers can submit a piece in any form of their choosing (short stories, poems, haiku’s, etc.) Please submit your piece as one single document (even if it's a collection of poems or short stories) in word document format, not in PDF format.

The word limit is 1000 words maximum.

“What if my piece doesn’t fit within the 1000 word limit?” - We can publish an excerpt of your piece and provide a link to the full work. Please check out the “Short Stories” section of our FAQ for more information.

Other Forms of Art

Other, more interactive forms of art, such as music or videos, is also accepted! However, Issue (our host site) does not allow us to embed music and video into the magazine itself, so please read our FAQ here for more information on how to submit such pieces.
