The first volume was mostly just a fun thing I did as a continuance of an old story I wrote concerning a certain family. The main premise was simulation, as the people in The Unfortunate Story 1 are in “The Program,” a simulated life, where a higher lifeform can test on, but the mostly just used it to simulated life, letting people live simulated life, and etc. This was meant to be a one time thing, but not long after, I made a second volume.
This second volume now features more character development with the characters, instead of the repeated story of, “boy likes girl and in the future they get married.” I wanted to add more connection between the characters and whoever is reading the book, but this came at its downside, of making The Unfortunate Story 2 quite, just… cringe, hence no one can read The Unfortunate Story 2, and don’t even get me started on The Unfortunate Story 3. While the adding more connection did eventually make things cringe, every time I read this volume I feel like I know the characters personally, as if I know what they are going through, and yes, I know I literally wrote the book, but I feel that connection can still be felt by others.
Now, This third volume was made a few months after The Unfortunate Story 2, and for this volume, I decided to change up the usual story, I call this volume, “Renewed Story,” as it quite different from the other 2 volumes. This story begins a bit like the other volumes, but I decided to introduce the idea of changing the environment, as volume 1 and 2 take place in Unfortunate City, so I decided to move the main cast (The Name Family) to a small remote island, and while it does limit the amount of characters present throughout the whole book, I felt as it was worth it, since it was new, different, and unexpected. Another change with this volume was the amount of new generations. Both The Unfortunate Story 1 and 2 had a total of four new generations added to the family, while with The Unfortunate Story 3, I focused more on adding more story with current generations, and yes, this made The Unfortunate Story 3 quite cringe too. This third volume is the longest, more than a million characters (letters) and more than 400 pages long, but those 400 pages only focused on 2 main storylines, first was generation 9 of The Name Family, which I dedicated 8 chapters of the story for, and after this, I focused basically the rest on generation 10. Now alongside this longer version of the main Name Family storyline, I also told a new one, about Timothy, the controller of “The Program” which I focused about 2-3 chapters on. I enjoyed adding this storyline as we see Timothy go from being staying indoors 24/7, to actually living, and even getting married. This volume could just be called, “The Renewed Story” as besides story changes, there were also more characters, more mature themes, the introduction of a “main villain”, and more. While I did enjoy writing this, I still think the longer stories with the same group of people got a bit repetitive sometimes, and I felt as there was too much romance, and while yes, the series is meant to follow the growth of The Name Family, I knew I didn’t want romance to be the main theme here.
The fourth volume, I decided to change up the story a bit, first, I undid the moving from Unfortunate City to Derkam Isle, and made the character move from Derkam Isle back to Unfortunate City, next, I added more serious stories, such as the “Kelly” stories and such, and added a new story premise. I decided to make a very limited amount of characters be stuck in a small area due to a nuclear bomb, and I did, so Chapter 6-7 are the “Walled” chapters, and I decided to change up the romance theme, will yes, there is still a romance thing happening between two characters, I made the difficult decision to end The Name Family, how? Instead of there being a male being born, I changed it to a female, hence, the Name last name is gone, it’s over, I won, I did it. But now im adding focus to a different family, so, nothing actually changes.
