Who should set the net? And take it down?
Both teams should arrive at the indicated time and, if need be, set the net together, regardless of who brought it. Similarly, when taking the net down, both teams should help.
At what height should the net be set?
The net should be set at the height for mixed beach volleyball. Of the three possible heights, it is the middle one.
This a 4v4 Mixed Beach Volleyball tournament. The championship consists of 2 stages.
Each team faces off against all other teams once, leading to a classification of all participating teams. The top 8 teams will qualify for the playoffs stage.Â
Teams classified 1 to 8 in the first stage qualify for the playoffs stage, which will consist of quarter-finals, semi-finals, the 3rd place match, and the final.
As in a classical tournament, the team ranked 1st will play against the team ranked 8th, 2nd against 7th, etc.
A separate playoffs bracket will be organised for the teams classified 9 or lower in the first stage.
NB: The BV-DTIC committee may change the format of the tournament to two separate round robins in the first stage if there are a lot of teams participating.
In general, captains (and 2nd captains) are responsible for adequately organising their team's matches and making sure that their teammates follow all the rules of the tournament.
Captains are responsible for informing their teammates of upcoming matches, indicated on the Calendar page of this website.
Captains are responsible for making sure that they have enough available players for any given match (while abiding to the mixed gender line-up rule), and for informing opposing teams and the BV-DTIC organisation committee as soon as possible if a reschedule of the match is necessary. Captains are then responsible for communicating with opposing teams and the organisation committee for such a reschedule.
Captains should communicate with the other captains and their teammates to bring a net and ball to the beach when it is the team's turn, according the Calendar page. Both teams should arrive at the indicated time and set up the net together. Punctuality is a must. Teams that are over 15 minutes late without communicating with the appropriate captain will be penalised MINUS 1 point.
Captains should also organise the return of the net and ball to the university when indicated in the Calendar.
Captains of both opposing teams should communicate the result of each match to the organisation committee.
If a team cannot reschedule a match within the timeframe of the tournament while complying with the aforementioned rules and having enough players, they should contact the other team and the organisation committee as soon as possible. If no solution can be found, as an extreme case, the incomplete team should contact the other team in advance and discuss the possibility to play with a player that doesn't belong to the team (but is registered to the tournament) or with fewer players on the field. This rule should only be applied as a last resort and with prior approval from the organisation committee.
