Whether you're looking to add some whimsy to your outdoor space or just enjoy a relaxing creative project, this craft is perfect for spring and summer vibes. Grab your glue gun, gather your materials, and let’s turn simple supplies into something beautiful that flutters with personality!
Instructions
Paint the Spoon:
Start by painting your wooden kitchen spoon in the color of your choice. This will be the butterfly’s body. Let it dry completely.
Create the Antennas:
Wrap two pipe cleaners around a pencil to create a spiral curl. These will be the butterfly’s antennas.
Assemble the Face:
Once the spoon is dry, hot glue the curled pipe cleaner antennas to the top back of the spoon. Then glue on two googly eyes to the front to bring your butterfly to life.
Make the Wings:
Take two wire hangers and form each into a wing shape. Secure the two ends of each wing together using zip ties. Repeat this process to create a second wing.
Attach the Wings Together:
Now take both sets of wings and zip tie or hot glue them together at the center to form the full butterfly wing structure.
Add the Wing Covering:
Keep your shower curtain folded to create a thicker layer, and place each wing section on top. Glue the wire hanger frame to the curtain and then trim the plastic to fit the shape of the wings.
Cover the Seams:
Use ribbon or decorative bling to cover the zip ties and any rough edges where the wings are joined. This adds a nice finished touch!
Add the Body:
Hot glue the decorated spoon (the butterfly body) in the center of the wings where they meet.
Attach to Yard Stake:
Use zip ties or hot glue to attach the entire butterfly to an H-stake or similar yard stake.
Display and Enjoy!
Stake your beautiful butterfly into the ground and enjoy your whimsical, budget-friendly garden decor!
