Culling
In a Kiko goat we look for size, conformation, big/wide horns, teat structure, parasite resistant, good mothers, etc. If a goat does not meet our standards we "cull." Our version of culling is basically just not registering the goat, we sell them as commercial for meat or pets.
Buying From Me
If you're interested in buying from me contact me to be put on the waiting list. When I sell a goat it includes a receipt, and all vaccination, health/illness, size, and supplement records. When selling a goat I take care of all the NKR paperwork and costs to register, DNA, and transfer that goat to your name. All goats are scrapie tagged, microchipped, and CDT vaccinated.
Diet
During the summer the goats main diet is browse and during the winter it's hay. We do feed grain about 1-3 times a week but small amounts. We feed grain as a treat and to make them easier to handle. Our grain is a mix of 15% meat goat feed, alfalfa pellets, beet pulp, and BOSS. We have high quality loose minerals available 24/7. We do our best to ensure the calcium to phosphorus ratio is between 2:1 and 4:1. A good Kiko should thrive on grass and alone.
Health/Illness
We try our best to minimize the use of medicine as much as possible. We do our own fecals here on the farm and only deworm when needed. If we ever have to use antibiotics we do a full course to minimize the possibility of antibiotic resistance. Any medicine or supplements ever given are documented and if the goat is ever sold these papers come with it.
Pasture Management
We try to keep our pastures in the best performance possible. To ensure this we implement pasture rotation, applying lime annually, and fertilizing annually. Our pasture is a mix of endophyte-free fescue, orchard grass, timothy, clover, etc.
