Through nurturing care and scaffolding, teachers provide a loving and safe environment for infants to learn by exploring the world around them. "Scaffolding is how adults support children’s development and learning by offering just the right help at just the right time in just the right way" (Gillespie and Greenberg 2017). Infants learn best through play, and at BBD we provide play opportunities designed to enhance brain development.
Being a toddler is an exciting time for children where they are exploring and learning about the world around them and their autonomy. We use Creative Curriculum to foster "developmentally appropriate goals and objectives for children within four main categories of interest: social/emotional, physical, cognitive and language" development (Marquette University 2019).
We set up our classrooms based on and use the Creative Curriculum in our preschool classrooms. Creative Curriculum is a "comprehensive, research-based and research-proven curriculum" (Teaching Strategies 2019). The physical space of the classroom is structured into 10 interest areas: blocks, dramatic play, toys and games, art, library, discovery, sand and water, music and movement, cooking, and computers. Time is also allotted for outdoor activities.
Our curriculum is based on the four core areas of Creative Curriculum and has seven specific categories of study. It is designed to be individualized to your child's current skill level and then challenge them to build upon their talents through scaffolding (or challenging your child to go to the next level).
Our curriculum is fun and challenging. It "promotes exploration and discovery, enabling children to develop confidence, creativity, and lifelong critical thinking skills" (Teaching Strategies 2019) while preparing them for Kindergarten. Creative Curriculum goes beyond the basic concepts engaging all the senses.
