52nd British Universities Summer School in Theoretical Elementary Particle Physics
29th August - 9th September 2023
University of Liverpool, UK
It will take place from 29th August to 9th September 2023.
BUSSTEPP (British Universities Summer School in Theoretical Elementary Particle Physics) is a long-established summer school aimed at Ph.D. students in theoretical particle physics who have completed a year of graduate studies. Having built a very strong international reputation for almost 52 years, it has been supported by STFC or its predecessor in order to provide a comprehensive and in-depth overview of research in elementary particle physics.
All the training activities, including lectures, individual study, tutorials, and student talks will take place in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, located near Liverpool City Centre.
STFC-funded and self-funded students are fully supported. If you are EPSRC funded, an EU-funded student employed at UK universities, or a student in other categories, please contact us.
Organizing committee:
Martin Gorbahn, Susha Parameswaran, David Schaich, Radu Tatar.
If you have any questions, please contact us at busstepp2023@gmail.com.
Registration is now closed.
· Advanced Quantum Field Theory: Emmanuel Stamou (Dortmund)
· AdS/CFT/Holography: Marika Taylor (Southampton)
· Beyond the Standard Model: Michael Trott (Perimeter Institute)
· Cosmology: Enrico Pajer (Cambridge)
· Modern QFT for Real-World Gravity: Michèle Levi (Oxford)
· Phenomenology: Veronica Sanz (Valencia)
· Lattice Field Theory: Simon Catterall (Syracuse)
· String Theory: David Skinner (Cambridge)
Following the tradition of previous BUSSTEPPs, all students will have the opportunity to briefly present their research interests to their peers. There will also be five sessions on topics of current interest, including both cutting-edge physics research as well as panels on inclusion, outreach, and careers:
- Juri Smirnov (University of Liverpool)
- Johann Ostmeyer (University of Liverpool)
- Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in Physics
- Communication and Outreach: Jackie Bell (Imperial College)
- Careers Within and Beyond Academia
